This is a 5-week employment opportunity located in Hannibal, mentoring 5th & 6th grade youth for the Kids in Motion program.
The Kids in Motion (KIM) program is designed to encourage health, success, and stability, as well as opportunity and financial incentives to middle school participants. The program focuses on several common goals, including life and social skills, general youth development, academic enrichment, career exploration, and leadership development.
As a Kids in Motion Youth Specialist, you will mentor and provide supportive leadership to middle school youth, assist with planning, coordinating, facilitating workshops, case management, with general oversight on localcommunity service projects.
Wage : $1 6.00-$17.00 per hourdepending on experience and / or education
Employment Term : May 2 8th July 1st
Employment Schedule : 7 : 30 am - 3 : 30 pm (40 hours per week)
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Conducts Kids in Motion activities in accordance with established Douglass Community Services guidelines and Kids in Motion protocol.
- Schedules intakes and conducts baseline assessments of participant's status, strengths, and challenges to create personalized action plans.
- Transport youth to local community service projects.
- Develops and maintains a supportive and beneficial relationship with students.
- Ensures confidentiality is maintained.
- Provides program coaching to encourage and guide participants in meeting their identified goals.
- Completes assessments, reviews, purchase requisitions, and purchases necessities to meet the needs of the program and participants
- Establishes and maintains positive effective working relationships with supervisors and coworkers.
EDUCATION AND SKILLS :
Minimum of a High School Diploma is required. 2 years of experience in working with diverse at-risk youth, between the ages of 9 and 12 is highly preferred. Must have a valid driver's license and daily access to reliable insured vehicle. Must be willing to obtain and maintain a Class E driver's license and pass the Missouri Department of Heath Family Safety Care Screen.CPR / First Aide and program specific training will be provided upon hire.
SAFETY :
This position requires the employee to maintain attention to safety at all times. Compliance with all safety policies is a must.
PHYSICAL / MENTAL DEMANDS :
This position requires the ability to lift / carry up to 40 lbs. The ability to move about in an office environment and the ability to independently travel to various sites is required. Prolonged visual concentration and dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard are also necessary. There is a high degree of mental concentration pertaining to the job at hand.
