Consumer Loan Underwriter
Dow Credit Union in Midland, MI is seeking a skilled and experienced full-time Consumer Loan Underwriter to join our team. As a Consumer Loan Underwriter, you will be responsible for reviewing and underwriting consumer, indirect, and student loan applications in accordance with established policies and guidelines. Your primary goal will be to evaluate applications for credit quality and make appropriate credit decisions. Additionally, you will work closely with members to align their loan requests with the most suitable products, ensuring their needs are met.

Consumer Loan Underwriter
We are a fast-paced and member-focused financial institution committed to providing exceptional service to our members. As a Consumer Loan Underwriter, you will be an integral part of our team, working with members to ensure a positive experience that enhances existing and potential member relationships.
- Review and underwrite consumer loan applications promptly and consistently, assessing credit quality and making sound credit decisions.
- Approve or deny loans based on established authority limits and credit union loan policies.
- Process loan applications through various channels, including web, phone, and indirect dealers.
- Communicate application decisions to members and loan officers, clearly specifying loan closing requirements.
- Cross-sell credit union products and services, such as GAP, disability and life insurance, and encourage loan recaptures from competitors.
- Counsel members on credit issues and propose alternative solutions when initial requests cannot be fulfilled.
- Resolve member complaints, address data conflicts, and ensure proper pipeline management of loans.
- Provide guidance and expertise to loan officers, supporting them in understanding underwriting requirements.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with external vendors, including indirect dealers, third-party service providers, and insurance agents.
TO EXCEL AS A CONSUMER LOAN UNDERWRITER
High school diploma or equivalency required.
Three to five years of consumer lending experience required.
