POSITION SUMMARY
The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts is seeking innovative, creative, qualified part-time performing arts instructors with an interest and training specifically in musical theater fundamentals. The artists will work closely with the Education Manager to implement and facilitate educational outreach programming in the Central Florida community.
Building sustainable musical theater programming in title I elementary schools, Disney Musicals in Schools sends teaching artists into elementary schools one day a week for a 2 hour after school rehearsal process. This role requires teaching artists to have previous experience collaborating with other artists, as well as facilitating musical theater instruction to elementary age students. The musicals will be performed at each individual school and then excerpts from each show will be presented at a culminating showcase at the Dr. Phillips Center.
This program is a 20-week commitment between the first week of November through May 2026. There are various required training days, including in person attendance at the annual ceremony on Monday May 5, 2026. Must be willing to attend the 4-day national training in Kansas City, MO on November 17 – 20, 2025 (all expenses covered). Attendance is required for all training.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead two weekly 90-minute rehearsals for a Disney KIDS Musical for 3rd-5th grade students at a local elementary school in conjunction with another teaching artist.
  • Lead in the production of a Disney KIDS musical at an elementary school.
  • Attend mandatory education teaching artist training sessions, meetings, professional development sessions and occasional special events
  • Represent the Dr. Phillips Center in instruction and facilitation at an outreach offsite campus, located in either Seminole, Osceola, or Orange counties
Guide and train a school team of teachers to take the reins as the production’s director, music director, choreographer, and stage manager by modeling, team teaching, and coaching. Apply the Disney Musicals in Schools team teaching pedagogy to be taught during teaching artist professional development.
  • Submit written lesson plans, assessment, teaching schedules, attendance sheets and payment invoice forms.
  • Prepare materials, coordinate and obtain equipment, materials and supplies needed for classes with education staff.
  • Follow and support all operational policies and procedures. Assimilate into the arts center culture through understanding, supporting and demonstrating the core values. Willing to work collaboratively with another teaching artist as a teaching team. Maintain a professional and friendly relationship with other departments, colleagues, and partners.
  • Able to remain calm under pressure. Ability to work effectively with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy. Maintain Dr. Phillips Center standards of customer service at all times.
  • Able to effectively communicate in English in both written and oral forms.
  • Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
  • Hold a BA, BS, or BFA in Theatre, Education, Educational Theatre, Applied Theatre or related field, or have equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrate skills and professional experience in musical theatre, including: choreography, directing, performance, and/or music direction
  • Have experience working as a Teaching Artist or classroom teacher, preferred. Capable of performing/teaching in busy non-traditional classroom settings.
  • Have experience working with diverse populations, backgrounds, and ages. Experience working with low-income or disadvantaged communities, a plus.
  • Have experience working on a play or musical with children.
  • Demonstrate strong classroom management skills.
  • Have excellent collaborative skills and thrive in a group work setting.
  • Possess strong time-management skills; be punctual and reliable.
  • Demonstrate respect for all students, teachers, and administrators participating in the program, and offer a superior level of professionalism, customer service, and positivity.
  • Availability to work during school hours, after-school hours Monday through Saturday
  • Proficiency with Microsoft software/applications.
  • Outgoing, people-oriented person with strong written, verbal, organization, analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to facilitate group discussion and decision making
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, problem solve, be flexible, innovative and imaginative. Strong attention to detail.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • This position requires the ability to work a variable schedule, evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet operational needs.
  • Prior to being hired you must provide proof of fingerprinting clearance as required by the school district.
  • Must provide own transportation to school sites within Central Florida.
