Role Summary/Purpose:

Team Leaders are responsible for assisting the Supervisor/Production Manager by performing related duties in coordinating workflow and keeping operators on task for their team and other associates. Team Leaders hold occasional meetings as a group away from the work area to resolve problems and report to the Supervisor/Production Manager. They are knowledgeable in his/her area of responsibility, is a hands on working member of the team, can train other employees on the team as needed, has seniority (in most cases), keeps the shop running smoothly, helps solve quality problems, reports issues to management, communicates with other team leaders to enhance material flow, and helps solve inter- departmental communication and material flow issues.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and guide the daily activities of the team, manage production schedules and priorities, including assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and providing feedback
  • Establish daily/weekly production goals for the workgroup
  • Participate in hiring process for new employees for his/her team
  • Train and qualify team members for job duties
  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment
  • Provide leadership and direction
  • Occasionally meet as a group away from the work area to resolve problems
  • Represent Supervisor/Production Manager when Supervisor/Production Manager is not on site/ unavailable
  • Encourage continuous improvement and skill development
  • Ensure safety, quality, and production standards are being met daily
  • Implement procedures and improve quality and efficiency
  • Ensure materials are available to complete the required production schedule
  • Monitor production and adjust manpower to meet customer needs, identify and address any production issues or bottlenecks, implement solutions to improve efficiency and productivity
  • Assist in troubleshooting manufacturing processes and tooling
  • Perform inventory cycle counts
  • Ensure production jobs and paperwork are completed correctly
  • Communicate with other departments and customer service when needed
  • Report issues to Supervisor/Production Manager that require corrective action outside area of responsibility
  • Positive motivation

  • Maintain safety and housekeeping
    • Ensure all operators are wearing PPE, following standard operating procedures, and maintain Dresser-Water housekeeping standards
  • Keep assigned workforce on task, working in the areas they are assigned to
    • At workstations ready to work at scheduled start times, end of break and meal periods and until shift end
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Must be familiar with and have working knowledge of Emergency Contact List
  • Provide production, progress, or changeover reports to Supervisor/Production Manager
    • Additional training needed for team members
    • Confidential issues and personnel issues sent directly to Production Manager
  • Discipline
    • Resolve small personnel issues as they happen:
      • Associates needing to go home early
      • Associates needing to step away for a brief period
  • Provide direction to associates that are off task, late from breaks, not preforming to operation standards
    • Verbally communicate to correct problems
    • Set production targets/goals as needed
  • Report company violations to Supervisor/Production Manager for further disciplinary actions


Qualifications/Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3 Years Experience in manufacturing environment and demonstrated proficiency in areas of responsibility
  • Strong leadership skills and respected by other employees in the organization
  • Knowledge of production processes in area of expertise and safety standards
  • Good organizational skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and product quality oriented
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely
  • Computer skills as needed
