- Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.
- Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
- Contact employer by telephone to verify employment and/or insurance benefits and determine extent of coverage.
- Regularly interview parents of patients to ascertain or update any additional information needed.
- Answer questions by hospital staff, physicians, and their office personnel, and patient families regarding insurance coverage and status of claims.
- Record the various insurance data on computer verification screen and distribute as needed to other hospital departments and physician's offices.
- Record patient identification data on appropriate forms and file necessary patient folders.
- Obtains signatures of parent or legal guardians as necessary on hospital forms.
- Calls insurance company with pre-certification requirements or request hospital days extension during hospital admission.
- Provides admitting physicians and/or consultants with appropriate patient information, insurance benefits and insurance mailing address.
- Assist family with completion of financial application.
- Answer telephone, records messages and relay information to correct personnel.
- Assist in ordering supplies.
- Review all in-patient observation and day surgeries to ensure highest possible reimbursement due hospital.
- Assist in discharge process of in-patient.
- Assist in review of in-patients for weekly financial meeting.
- Contact necessary agent for information regarding liabilities account.
- Assist family with payment arrangements for outstanding balances.
- Performs any duties in the department as required for adequate staffing.
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; of equivalent combination of education and experience.
- One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Associates Degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Bachelor's degree from four year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
