**Hiring two construction technicians in our outside network operations department**
General Summary:
The Construction Technician assists in all phases of construction including but not limited to: heavy equipment operation, splicing, terminating, and maintaining fiber optic cable and supporting outside plant. Additionally, the Construction Technician assists with outside plant maintenance, repair, and installation. The successful candidate must be exceedingly well-organized, motivated, possess a strong work ethic, and enjoy the day-to-day challenges of supporting DRN ReadiTech’s multiple service offerings. The Construction Technician possesses the ability to positively interact with the public and staff in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, while remaining calm, focused, resourceful and efficient. Further, the applicant must be highly professional, well-versed in both written and verbal communications, and demonstrate superior attention to detail.
Essential Job Functions:
- Liaison to engineers and/or contractors relative to any/all construction that would or could affect DRN’s network positively or adversely
- Assists in all phases of construction including heavy equipment operation.
- Identifies and prepares fiber strands for splicing and termination.
- Maintains OSP facilities by testing to locate trouble, repairing or replacing defective sections using splicing technique and closing/sealing.
- Performs routine and preventive equipment maintenance
- Maintains current industry knowledge by utilizing various resources and attending training
- Works with safety awareness of the considerable hazards related to construction and maintenance of OSP facilities.
- Uses protective equipment and safety practices.
- Regular, reliable, consistent and punctual attendance is required
- Responsible for duties as described in the general summary and any/all other duties as assigned by manager and/or supervisor
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of basic electronics, digital technology, and preventive maintenance
- Knowledge of telecommunications plant equipment operations and maintenance
- Ability to follow company policies and procedures
- Skill in operating various heavy machinery and construction equipment
- Skill in reading cable records, staking sheets, specifications and circuit diagrams
- Ability to communicate with co-workers, customers and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as maps, staking sheets, and operating and maintenance instruction manuals
- Ability to pay close attention to detail
- Ability to evaluate, test and repair sophisticated equipment
- Ability to improve or redesign procedures for specific installation/repair problems
- Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions using information at hand
- Ability to effectively function as a team player
- Ability to perform duties in a safe, professional manner
- Highly motivated and a self-starter
- Possess good driving record and Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
Education and Experience:
A degree in Telecommunications Technologies, Electronics or related technical field or equivalent related experience is preferred for this position. Must have current CDL license and the ability to obtain additional professional certifications as the business need dictates. Prior telecommunications experience helpful.
License: Valid and clear driving record required. A current CDL license and previous equipment operating experience required.
