Project Description:
DRT provides public health, technology, data, communications, and visualization support to enhance the government’s ability to use public health data to address diverse, complex, and emerging problems. This includes designing and developing application and database solutions. In addition, this team develops innovative data capture and analysis techniques to enhance safety research and recommendation efforts across the country.

Job Summary:
The Public Health Tester will be responsible for ensuring the quality, accuracy, and functionality of public health systems and applications developed for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). You will be a part of a team of testers who develop and execute comprehensive test plans to ensure the success of these important digital solutions.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with project managers, developers, business analysts, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and define comprehensive test plans that address functional, performance, security, and usability aspects.
  • Develop and execute detailed test cases, scripts, and scenarios for manual and automated testing, ensuring thorough test coverage for each software release.
  • Oversee and manage defect tracking, resolution, and verification processes, ensuring all issues are documented and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Lead test planning efforts, including determining testing resources, timelines, and deliverables for each phase of the project.
  • Coordinate and execute functional, regression, integration, performance, security, and UAT (User Acceptance Testing) to ensure system integrity and compliance with federal regulations and CDC standards.
  • Implement best practices for testing, continuously improving testing methodologies and processes, and ensuring adherence to quality standards throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Communicate test results and risks to senior stakeholders, providing clear and actionable insights on product quality and areas of improvement.
  • Work closely with developers to reproduce issues, clarify requirements, and ensure test environments mirror production systems.
  • Stay updated on the latest testing technologies, CDC regulations, and industry standards to apply relevant methodologies to the project.
  • Ensure that all testing efforts align with accessibility standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., WCAG).
  • Participate in agile ceremonies (e.g., sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives) as needed, supporting the team in an agile development environment.
Require Experience:
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Public Trust
  • 3-5 years of experience in software application testing
  • Proven experience opearting within a complex federal government IT project, ideally within public health sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of software testing methodologies, tools, and frameworks (e.g., Selenium, JIRA, TestRail, QTest, LoadRunner).
  • Extensive experience in functional, regression, performance, security, and automated testing.
  • Experience with test management tools and defect tracking systems.
  • Knowledge of public health regulations, security standards (e.g., HIPAA), and accessibility compliance (WCAG) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban).
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think critically and adapt testing strategies to meet changing project requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to report on test results clearly and concisely to stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, working independently or as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on quality assurance and continuous improvement.
Preferred Experience:
  • General knowledge and experience working with the federal government, specifically HHS
  • Familiarity with automated testing frameworks and continuous integration (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Knowledge of security testing (e.g., vulnerability scanning, penetration testing).
  • Experience with database testing and validating data integrity.
Education & Training:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
Salary Range:
  • $55,000-73,000
  • Salary commensurate with experience.
