MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENT:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Business, or Counseling
HIGHLY DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Teaching experience
Multi-Occupations licensure
Experience collaborating with local business communities around the needs of students
BASIC FUNCTIONS:
Support, monitor, and further the vision of DCSD’s post-secondary readiness framework (VERTEX). Mentor high
school students, helping them discover their interests, skills, and values and connecting students with career
experiences, opportunities, and pathways. Systematize the DCSD ICAP process and protocols. Coach staff to help
students to uncover interests, skills, and values, as well. Support the continued development of business partners
to offer career-readiness opportunities for students.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Promote the VERTEX initiative to students, staff, and local businesses
Educate and coach students regarding various career pathways while increasing opportunities for hands-on
career-focused experiences
o Engage with students in career and college conversations while fostering a culture of
encouragement of students interests and skills
o Connect students with experiences to help them make informed decisions about post-secondary
plans
o Support staff-development for having career coaching conversations with students
o Systematize school level implementation of student career-ready experiences and opportunities,
including serving on or facilitating Individual Career and Academic Planning Teams
o Engage with students, parents, counselors, and teachers on the five essential components of
Individual Career and Academic Planning (ICAP)
o Support development and monitoring of career and college ready metrics
o Help develop, maintain, and improve software systems and their effective use: electronic career
readiness tools which may include: Kuder Navigator, the Work-Based Learning Database, and the
VERTEX Data Dashboard
Administer and train students and staff on the use of each
o Collaborate with external career-services partners to develop a sustainable coaching model,
engage in business outreach to develop new VERTEX partners
Increase student connections through the addition of new and varied extracurricular activities with an
emphasis on Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO)
Improve student engagement in STEM, including computer science
Collaboratively evaluate the VERTEX initiative through data collection that may include surveys, end of course
or program questionnaires, focus group interviews, student observations or field notes, enrollment in identified
activities or courses
