Summary
The role of a delivery driver interacts with customers and represent Duininck Supply while making accurate deliveries and pick-ups of materials and assisting in the warehouse as needed. Responsibilities also include safe operation of vehicle, vehicle maintenance, and loading and unloading trucks in an efficient manner.
Essential job duties and responsibilities
Accurately fills orders for delivery to customers. All orders must be double checked by another person when staff is available and signed by both associates before loading on the truck. All products and orders must have pick ticket/BOL before an order can leave the warehouse.
Load and unload trucks in an accurate and efficient manner at the warehouse and customer locations. Follow load secure process.
Drive company trucks making prompt, on schedule deliveries to customer sites and pick-ups while notifying management of any delays in the delivery schedule.
Become familiar with delivery routes and customers' preferences. Supply feedback to the Supervisor to maintain efficiency in driving routes
Identify deficiencies and/or areas of improvement in the delivery process and communicate to management.
Maintains delivery vehicle in clean, good working condition and monitors maintenance and mileage data. The driver shall be responsible for oil changes and schedule other service work with the manager. Performs daily inspections of the vehicle.
Completes driver's log and other backup detail daily and forwards all the information to the office on a weekly basis in order to be processed timely.
Report and record damage to vehicles and/or product, equipment, and vehicles to the office immediately to the office.
Communicate with sales associates through problem solving to meet customer needs by reporting customer problems and opportunities. Acts in helpful and cooperative manner towards customers and associates.
Receives incoming freight and checks the material for damages or shortages. Distributes material to the proper stock locations. Fills special orders and backorders as material is received.
Acts as a team player and helps in the warehouse.
Maintains a clean and safe working area in the warehouse.
Maintains assigned inventory stock locations, making sure the material that is put away has the correct location when available.
Construct pallets in staging area based on delivery area preventing stock from being damaged on delivery.
Acquires and maintains current knowledge of company policies and procedures, participates in training, and attends meetings as requested and promoting a safe work environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must have good customer service skills and experience. Strong attention to attention detail.
Required Skills Valid Class A CDL, 1-year commercial driving experience, and familiar with delivery area. Current medical certification card or ability to obtain a card.
Forklift certification or ability to acquire a forklift license. Forklift experience a plus.
Must possess interpersonal skills, organizational skills, be a self-starter and have the ability to communicate (verbal and written). This position requires the ability to lift more than 75 pounds on an occasional basis, move up to 25-50 pounds on a frequent basis and move up to 20 pounds on a constant basis. This position may require constant standing and walking. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
