In addition to its hospitals, Duke Health has an extensive, geographically dispersed network of outpatient facilities that include primary care offices, urgent care centers, multi-specialty clinics and outpatient surgery centers.

Occ Summary

Perform routine and complex procedures to obtain clinicalneurobehavioral data for use in diagnoses of neurological disord ers.Such data is collected utilizing standardized, objective test measur esof cognition, and mood/personality when needed. Extensive hours indire ct patient contact are required, calling for professional,enthusiastic, service oriented clinical data technicians.


Work Performed

Level 1Verify the test menu order and prepare protocols.Transitionthe patient into testing after interview withneuropsychologist.Independ ently administer/score neuropsychological tests to neurological,psychiat ric, or medical patients in a standardized manner in accordanceto lab po licy. All measures have objective detailed start,stop/discontinue, scori ng, and conversion rules.Complete behavioral observations sheet on each patient rating integrityof vision, test engagement, motor functioning, e tc., as outlined.Alert supervising neuropsychologist when there is any c hallenge to testscore validity (eg. effort/test engagement, sensory/moto r abnormalities,patient discomfort or agitation).Communicate routinely w ith neuropsychologist about patient process(e.g., any challenges, time l eft, completion).Ensure patient comfort throughout testing process (typi cally 3-5 hours).Maximize patient test engagement and data validity.Conv ert all raw data to standardized normed scores per protocol, andsummariz e in data sheet.Perform data entry into clinical database.Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.Level 2Performs a ll the duties of a level 1 psychometrician and the additionalroles/dutie s/responsibilities below:Preceptor for employees moving into Psychometri cian roleAssists in guiding the professional growth of others through mo deling,coaching and/or mentoringTrain and competency maintained to perfo rm Pediatric/adolescent studiesTrain and competency maintained to perfor m studies for patients admittedto the hospitalTrain and competency maintained to perform testing for specializedpopulations DBS, epilepsy, and s pecial testing needs)Responsible for completion of 3 department operati onal tasks includingbut not limited to: patient scheduling, patient appo intment remindercommunications, charge capture and reconciliation, maint ain protocolinventory, active participation in research project must dem onstrateinvolvement/ongoing activity each quarter (e.g. ACT/NFL), partic ipatesin development and oversight of PI project, leads daily team huddl es,submits an article/poster for publication; leads at least 1 CNS inser vice, chairs in an internal departmental committee with monthlymeetings, agendas; participates in special projects negotiated withmanager, Activ ely reviews and participates in quality assurance processunder direct su pervision of department manager.

Minimum Qualifications


Education

Level 1 Work requires a Bachelor's Degree (B.S. or B.A.). Degree in psychology, biology, or related field preferred. Level 2 Work requires a Bachelor's Degree (B.S. or B.A.). Degree in psychology, biology, or related field preferred.


Experience

Level 1 6 months of experience in a healthcare setting. Masters in biology, psychology, or related field could be substituted for up to 2 years' experience. Level 2 2 years working as a psychometrician.


Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

No formal certification. Work is conducted under the supervision of licensed Ph.D. level neuropsychologists.
