Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Optometric Technician to join our team. As an Optometric Technician, you will play a crucial role in assisting optometrists in providing exceptional eye care services to our patients. Duties:
- Perform preliminary tests and measurements on patients, including visual acuity, color vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision
- Obtain and record patient medical history, including current medications and allergies
- Administer diagnostic tests such as tonometry (measuring intraocular pressure) and visual field testing
- Prepare patients for examinations by assisting with eye drops, contact lens insertion/removal, and other procedures
- Assist with contact lens fittings and provide instruction on proper lens care and maintenance
- Educate patients on eye health, proper eyewear usage, and contact lens hygiene
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems
- Clean and maintain ophthalmic instruments and equipment
- Assist with inventory management of ophthalmic supplies
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology related to ophthalmology and optometry
- Proficiency in using electronic medical record (EMR) systems for documentation
- Familiarity with retail math concepts for sales transactions
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to provide exceptional patient care
- Knowledge of aseptic technique to maintain a clean and sterile environment
- Ability to accurately measure vital signs such as blood pressure and temperature
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage patient records and inventory
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification as an Optometric Technician is preferred
- Previous experience working in a medical office or optometry setting is highly desirable
- Knowledge of basic optometric procedures and equipment is preferred
