What are the responsibilities and job description for the Optician position at Dunbar Eye Associates?
Dunbar Eye Associates is an independent optometry practice in Dunbar, West Virginia, serving the greater Kanawha Valley.
Opticians dispense eyeglasses to patients with proper frames and lenses as prescribed by an optometrist or ophthalmologist. Opticians help patients choose frames that suit their needs and tastes and then adjust those frames for a perfect fit and repair them when necessary. Opticians also learn about lens materials, designs, coatings, and other available features to make recommendations for the best possible visual experience.
Previous optical experience is preferred but not required. We can provide on-the-job training for technical skills. A background in customer service or retail sales is well suited for this position.
The job is fast-paced and engaging. Opticians spend some time at a computer and some time on their feet. Fitting, repairs, and adjustments require dexterity and problem-solving skills. They spend time interacting with patients as well as time working on inventory, job submission, and insurance billing.
The optical staff work as a team and interact with our clinic staff and front desk staff to provide excellent, comprehensive patient care. We offer cross-training opportunities on other teams to help everyone understand the entire process and their role within it.
