Medical Director
The DuPont Clinic is a referral center for all-trimester abortion and ultrasound-guided procedures, including for abnormal or high risk pregnancies, and for people with complex medical situations who may have difficulty accessing care. We provide the highest level of medical care and a private experience focused on the individual needs of each patient. We seek an outstanding person to join the DuPont Clinic as the part-time Medical Director. This person will report directly to the Chief Medical Officer. The Medical Director will provide oversight for clinical decisions and policies for physicians and advanced practice clinicians at the site. They will be an integral part of the management team in creating the patient experience. The right person for this position will have the highest standards for patient safety, be motivated to create a positive patient experience, and strongly support the right to bodily autonomy. The position will have 0.5-1 days per week beyond clinic duties.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Participate in the development and implementation of the mission, vision, values, and strategic plan of the organization, focusing on high quality, patient-focused health care
- Provide leadership, partnership, and clinical support to physicians and advanced practice clinicians at the DuPont Clinic in Washington, DC
- Provide consultation on patient care issues to clinical staff
- Manage physician and advanced practice clinician staff at the site
- Lead training, quality assurance, privileging, clinical team meetings, and professional development for physicians and advanced practice clinicians at the site
- Develop training programs for licensed staff and supervise clinical training
- Manage visiting trainees (medical students, residents, fellows, etc.)
- Communicate clearly and consistently with staff to assist in change management, specifically with licensed staff
- Ensure compliance with health care policies and procedures
- Evaluate quality measures for clinical team
- Support changes to improve performance on quality measures, including workflow, system changes, policies, and procedures.
- Provide clinical care as obstetrician-gynecologist as agreed
- Actively promote a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion
Qualifications:
- Board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology required
- Complex Family Planning board eligible or board certified preferred
- Licensed in the site location
- Three years of experience in clinical leadership and management or equivalent
- Exceptional leadership, supervisory, and planning skills
- Ability to lead and manage various positions and relate well to people from diverse backgrounds, as well as have a passion for working with diverse populations
- Excellent interpersonal, empathy, and communication skills
- Commitment to improving patient experience of care
- Understanding of information technology and ability to organize, analyze and synthesize complex data from various sources
- Abortion care experience to at least 23 weeks and wIllingness to provide to 32 weeks
- Strong commitment to the principles of reproductive justice and bodily autonomy
- Fluency in a language other than English preferred
- All DuPont Clinic employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
Physical and Work Environment
- Available to work full-time in an exempt capacity as a leader of the clinic
- Ability to work clinically at least 12 weeks per year, either 3-day or 4-day weeks. Four-day weeks are typically Monday to Thursday, but occasionally Tuesday-Friday if there is a Monday holiday. Three-day weeks are Wednesday-Friday currently.
- Ability to work nights during patient care weeks, as needed to accommodate patient needs
- Ability to respond quickly to patient needs and work at fast pace
- Will be exposed to the following hazards on a frequent basis: mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood and body fluids. Will be required to wear protective clothing and equipment as needed.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person present.
