POSITION SUMMARY
The coffee bar manager is responsible for day-to-day operations of the coffee bar and retail sales department. The coffee bar manager is responsible for ensuring high quality products and an excellent customer experience. The manager will have strong leadership skills and lead staff by example by demonstrating excellent customer service, efficiency, product quality, and cleanliness. The manager is also responsible for day-to-day business operations concerning the café & working with the office manager to maintain bookkeeping files and vendor accounts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Hire and maintain needed cafe barista staff
- Train new employees and maintain consistent training for all staff, including new employee orientation and regularly scheduled reviews
- Maintain efficient cafe staff schedule with the goal of balancing coverage needs with the personal needs of your staff.
- Work behind the bar for a minimum of four, 6 hour barista shifts per week.
- Maintain staff communication log and follow up with staff on questions/issues. The coffee bar manger will be the first point of contact for cafe employee questions, concerns, and disciplinary actions.
- Monitor barista scheduled task log to ensure daily tasks are completed with all team members contributing
- Take weekly inventory of cafe supplies including cups, ingredients, and supplies. Order supplies as needed in a manner that is efficient and cost-effective.
- Take weekly inventory of merchandise and communicate with person in charge of ordering
- Maintain quality food program. Communicate with baked goods supplier to keep cafe stocked and minimize waste
- Handle customer complaints, issues, and special requests in ways consistent with company values
- Monitor equipment condition and report maintenance needs and concerns to supervisor
- Maintain company merchandise inventory, and working to create new and necessary products, with GM or President’s approval
- Ensure proper cash handling by cafe staff
- Meets weekly with direct supervisor
- Verifying cash balances and reconciling deposits
- Purchasing café supplies as needed
- Communicating with office manager about wholesale customers coming through the café.
- Upholding professionalism by providing courteous customer service to visitors, customers, and vendors via phone, email, and in person
- Weekly self-reporting of business performance to GM.
- Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required
- At least 2 years of barista experience and previous experience managing employees preferred.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Must possess proficient ability to communicate in English in oral and written format
- Ability to apply discretion and trust with confidential material
- Ability to effectively apply analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent time managing skills with the ability to multi-tasking, prioritize, and meet deadlines
