Position Summary:
The Payroll Processor is responsible for accurately and timely processing of our client’s payroll, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role involves handling sensitive employee data, maintaining payroll records, verifying timekeeping information, and responding to payroll-related inquiries. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, discreet, and experienced with payroll systems and labor laws.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process bi-weekly, semi-monthly, or monthly payrolls for hourly and salaried employees.
- Review and verify employee timecards, attendance data, and payroll entries for accuracy.
- Ensure correct calculation of wages, overtime, bonuses, commissions, deductions, and taxes.
- Maintain payroll records and ensure proper documentation for auditing purposes.
- Administer direct deposit and paycheck distribution.
- Process new hires, terminations, pay changes, garnishments, and other employee data in the payroll system.
- Coordinate with HR to ensure accurate benefit deductions and leave tracking (e.g., PTO, sick leave, FMLA).
- Assist with year-end reporting, including preparation of W-2s, 1099s, and other tax documents.
- Reconcile payroll reports and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Ensure payroll is compliant with company policies, labor laws, and tax regulations.
- Respond to employee questions regarding pay, deductions, and payroll policies.
- Support audits (internal, external, or regulatory) by providing necessary documentation.
- Stay up to date on payroll laws and regulations affecting wage and hour compliance.
Salary: $53k-$55k
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Human Resources preferred.
- 1-2 years of payroll processing experience, preferably in a multi-state environment.
- Experience with payroll software (e.g., ADP, Paychex, UKG, QuickBooks Payroll, etc.) required.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive employee data.
- Knowledge of wage and hour laws, FLSA regulations, and payroll tax rules.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other office software.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for dealing with employees and stakeholders.
