GIFTED EDUCATION - SECONDARY SPECIALIST

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $50,500 - $69,171 per year

POSITION SALARY RANGE: $50,500 - $118,050 per year

SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION: Design ALPs (Advanced Learning Plans) for secondary students and monitor effective implementation of the plans. Work with teachers to develop enrichment models for gifted learners. Assist in the identification of gifted secondary students. Meet with students and/or parents to explain and customize ALPs. Coordinate transition services for students moving from elementary to middle school and middle school to high school. Guide gifted students in pre-college planning.

SUPERVISED BY: Assistant Director of Exceptional Student Services

ESSENTIAL JOB ELEMENTS:
  • Participate in cluster group meetings focusing on student learning and individual growth goals/goals.
  • Participate in the development and enhancement of a school-wide culture that promotes professional growth and student learning.
  • Provide support and knowledge that inspires and encourages the professional growth of teachers at the cluster group meeting and school-wide a resources are utilized for the enhancement of student learning.
  • Contribute to the professional development of other teachers including but not limited to modeling the use and application of best practices, and peer support with lesson planning and designing consistent with state standards and district goals.
  • Support teachers in the adaptation of instruction to meet the learning needs of advanced learners thus increasing the probability of advancing their achievement.
  • Promote and maintain student behavior expectations conducive to learning and maximizing learning time.
  • Establish and demonstrate positive human relations with students, parents, other staff members and the community.
  • Maintain an ongoing program of professional growth that meets District requirements and expectations and personal professional goals.
  • Contribute to the decisions made by the District and School regarding school student achievement goals, budget, facility allocation, curriculum revision, and extra-curricular activities.
  • Ensure the accuracy, completeness, confidentiality, and security of all student information.
  • Comply with District and School policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Students, parents, support staff, principal, master teacher(s), mentor teacher(s), teachers and community members.

  • Participation in an approved induction program if necessary
  • Participation in school level cluster groups
  • Collaborative professional development through teaming with other teachers
  • A school culture that promotes professional growth, collaboration among teachers and student learning


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Does possess or is willing to access the GT credential related to the GT content area.
  • Active teacher authorization or license issued by the State of Colorado.
  • Must be "Highly Qualified" according to the Colorado's definition of a "Highly Qualified" teacher under the No Child Left Behind Act (effective January 1, 2004 for current teachers and 2002-03 for newly hired teachers).
  • Endorsement in the area(s) of teaching assignment preferred.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
