Early Childhood Academy Aftercare Teacher/Assistant SY 2024-25

Early Childhood Academy Public Charter School (ECA), located in the Washington Highlands neighborhood of Ward 8, has implemented a high-quality prekindergarten through grade 3 program since its opening in 2005. ECA has been accredited since 2014 by the Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools.

Early Childhood Academy PCS is seeking dedicated and responsible individuals to join our team as Aftercare Workers. Tour of duty is 3pm -6pm.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise children before and after school, always ensuring their safety.
  • Plan and lead age-appropriate activities to keep children entertained and engaged.
  • Assist children with homework and provide academic support when needed.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with parents/guardians regarding children’s behavior, progress, and any concerns.
  • Implement health and safety protocols, including proper sanitation practices and emergency procedures.
  • Handle behavioral issues calmly and effectively, employing positive reinforcement techniques when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, incidents, and activities.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to ensure smooth operation of the before and aftercare program.
  • Participate in relevant training sessions and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge in childcare.

Qualifications and Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working with children preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, creativity, and genuine passion for working with children.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • First Aid and CPR certification preferred (or willing to obtain).
  • COVID Vaccinated
  • Pass required DC clearances (and other states as applicable) including drug and alcohol screening

Job Type: Part-time
