Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Authorization Specialist to join our pediatric therapy team on a part-time basis. This role is essential in ensuring our young clients receive timely access to therapeutic services by managing insurance authorizations and maintaining compliance with payer requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Insurance Authorization Management
- Obtain and track prior authorizations for speech & feeding therapy and ABA services.
- Submit authorization requests to insurance companies, Medi-Cal, and other payers
- Follow up on pending authorizations and resolve any issues or denials
- Maintain accurate records of authorization status, expiration dates, and approved visit counts
- Coordinate with clinical staff to ensure services align with authorized treatment plans
Documentation and Compliance
- Review referrals and clinical documentation to ensure authorization requirements are met
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits
- Communicate authorization status and coverage limitations to families and clinical team
- Maintain organized filing systems for authorization documentation
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements
Communication and Coordination
- Serve as primary liaison between insurance companies, families, and clinical staff regarding authorization matters
- Provide exceptional customer service to families navigating insurance processes
- Assist families in understanding their insurance benefits and coverage
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1 year of experience in medical insurance, healthcare administration, or related field
- Strong knowledge of insurance authorization processes and medical terminology
- Experience with pediatric healthcare or therapy services preferred
- Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems and Google Workspace
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with friendly phone personality
- Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
- Self-starter who can work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Positive attitude and eagerness to learn new processes and systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with California Medicaid (Medi-Cal) and Regional Center systems
- Background in pediatric therapy services
- Bilingual capabilities (Spanish highly preferred given our community demographics)
Schedule and Compensation
- Part-time position: 20-25 hours per week
