Under general supervision, and through subordinate Senior Mechanics, the Equipment Supervisor evaluates and directs the activities of journey level mechanics engaged in maintaining, modifying, overhauling, and repairing automobiles, light or heavy trucks, off-road construction equipment and small tools and equipment. Typical duties may include: • Planning, scheduling, assigning, directing, and reviewing the work of employees engaged in the repair, overhaul, modification, maintenance, and adjustment of automobiles, light or heavy trucks, and construction equipment. • Estimating the cost of labor, parts, and supplies necessary for the performance of the work. • Maintaining and preparing reports of fuel and vehicle usage, repair and maintenance costs, preventive maintenance and repair schedules, parts costs and inventory levels using the automated Equipment Maintenance System. • Maintaining detailed computerized records. • Using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) to prepare reports and communicate with East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) staff and outside vendors. • Determining, requisitioning, and maintaining a stock of replacement materials, parts, and supplies necessary for the repair and maintenance of the fleet. • Conducting cost-benefit studies by researching and evaluating prices, availability, operational and maintenance characteristics of alternative products, equipment, and vehicles. • Overseeing and directing Maintenance Specialists in EBMUD’s Fleet Parts Department. • Planning and supervising the preventive maintenance program for an assigned section. • Recommending changes in work processes and making changes in daily priorities as circumstances indicate. • Developing inspection procedures and verifying completed inspections based on California Vehicle Code (CVC), Bay Area Air Quality Management District, California Highway Patrol, California Air Resources Board (CARB) and other governmental regulations. • Arranging for manufacturers or industry representatives training demonstrations. • Interviewing candidates and recommending selection of employees. • Reviewing, evaluating, and documenting employee performance. • Promoting, maintaining, and ensuring that safe working conditions exist and safety precautions are followed by employees. • Recommending improvements required on automobiles, trucks, and equipment to meet EBMUD operating and safety requirements. • Meeting with internal customers and vendors to develop detailed equipment specifications that meet the needs of user groups. • Creating Purchase Requests (PR) for the acquisition of equipment, services and supplies. • Recommending disposition of replaced, obsolete or non-repairable equipment. • Ensuring that fleet vehicles and construction equipment are properly registered and licensed and comply with the CVC. • Coordinating receipt of new vehicles and equipment such as recording serial numbers, establishing maintenance schedules, and obtaining titling documents licenses and registrations from vendors or the DMV. • Arranging for and coordinating special work with other departments or shops as required. • Working closely with EBMUD’s Regulatory Compliance Office (RCO) to ensure compliance with multiple State and Federal regulations. • Coordinating and scheduling work with outside vendors. • Evaluating staff to determine where technical training is needed, and scheduling training with outside vendors as required. • Conducting meetings with staff members, user groups and vendors. • Supporting the needs of staff working in remote locations. • Communicating with user departments regarding the status of vehicle and equipment replacements. • Reading, understanding and creating vehicle and equipment specifications. • Other duties as assigned. The salary range is $11,388 per month increasing to $11,957, $12,555, and $13,183 after 6, 18, and 30 months, respectively. EBMUD is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Must possess the physical characteristics to perform the critical and important duties of the class, including sufficient physical agility to climb on, into, or under vehicles and equipment for inspection purposes. 5. Must be willing to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and work overtime as needed. Please note: EBMUD requires all employees to provide written proof of vaccination. Successful candidates will be placed on the hiring list, based on rank, for further consideration to fill the current regular vacancy, as well as others occurring over the next 12 to 24 months. 5. The probation period for this position is 12 months. For those holding civil service status the probation period is 6 months. 6. All employment offers are conditional, pending the results of a Live Scan background screening.
