What are the responsibilities and job description for the Service Desk Attendant position at East Bonner County Library?
All Applicants must be able to work the following hours: Monday: 8am-4pm, Tuesday 12pm-7pm, Saturday 10am-5pm
This is a part time position of up to 19 hours per week.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Provide direct customer service to library patrons. Perform technical library tasks, routine clerical work, operate computers and other duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Check out and renew library materials for patrons using computerized circulation system; update patron files;
Collect fees for overdue, lost, and damaged materials.
Assist patrons in use of self-checkout station.
Check in, clean, sort and shelve library materials according to alphabetical and numerical filing systems
Answer basic informational and directional questions and questions about library procedures and policies, referring the more difficult questions to appropriate staff.
Must be able to communicate and effectively interact with library staff and patrons of all ages, socio-economic & education levels.
Maintain collections and public areas in general to assure items are in proper places.
May occasionally be assigned to work at the Clark Fork branch.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Highly developed and consistently applied customer service skills.
Must be able to perform basic to intermediate computer and math skills
Ability and willingness to learn new technology.
Follow verbal and written instructions and work effectively and efficiently with little supervision.
Personal initiative, motivation, positive attitude, and ability to work as part of a team or alone on a project
Ability to learn library clerical procedures, techniques, and systems.
Ability to make sound decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES NECESSARY FOR THE ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Ability to perform the physical requirements. These may include but are not limited to:
Ability to see and read small letters and numbers rapidly. Standing/walking for extended durations; climbing/descending step stools; frequently grasping, handling of books, keyboarding; lifting and carrying objects weighing 1-30 lbs, sometimes on a repetitive basis, pushing/pulling (library carts with books); reaching overhead; bending, stooping, kneeling and walking. Clear speech, vision and hearing are required, as is the ability to identify certain colors,
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Job is performed primarily indoors and will require working in close proximity with others in a climate-controlled environment with fluorescent lighting. Occasionally empty outdoor book drops. May rarely be assigned to work at the Clark Fork Branch, so exposure to seasonal road conditions may occur.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Sufficient education, training and/or work experience to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities that would typically be acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent.
Computer experience required.
Customer service experience is highly desirable.
The individual selected must be at least 18 years of age. Selected applicant must pass criminal background check (at Library expense). Upon beginning employment, selected applicant must verify employment eligibility by providing documentation that satisfies requirements of U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services I-9 Form.
