What are the responsibilities and job description for the Program Director of COMPASS position at East Carolina University?
The Department of Human Development and Family Science at East Carolina University (ECU) invites applications for a 12-month professional staff position as the Program Director of COMPASS.
The Director handles regular day to day problems or issues on a regular basis such as covering staffing if someone calls in sick or rescheduling an event due to the weather. The position demonstrates initiative to independently engage in this type of problem-solving and decision-making, bringing in the supervisor and grant team only as needed.
The director identifies needs that are impacting the ability of the grant to reach more student parents who qualify for services and executes solutions that benefit student parents. The director has a presence across the university with administrative leaders and participates in university committee work. The director is an active participant and leader in working groups on campus focused on issues that impact student parents. The director liaisons with student affairs.
The role of the director is to expand enrollment of eligible student parents and services they can access. The director is key to initiating and coordinating expansion with a current and new partner. This position is also a responsible for collecting, storing, and managing grant data that will be reported to the funder.
The director will manage an operational budget for the DOCC and marketing budgets for COMPASS program. Because these are grant funds the position works closely with post-award staff on expenditures. This includes projects with creative services, marketing materials, and ordering necessities for Student-Parent events. The director also manages the revenue-generated DOCC fund through the UStore.
COMPASS Operations and Student Services (30%):

- Collect and manage data on student services provided through grant funds.
- Contribute to program evaluation and reporting to funders.
- Implement measures that contribute to assessment and evaluation of grant services.
- Monitor student applications for grant services and coordinate student enrollment in COMPASS.
- Execute student recruitment activities for COMPASS.
- Oversee the operational budget for the Drop Off Child Care (DOCC) and marketing budget for COMPASS program.
- Coordinate student parent resources including maintenance and updates to the program’s Canvas site.
- Liaison with the NDCDC Director for enrollment of children whose parents are enrolled in COMPASS program.
- Maintain regular communication with COMPASS participants (i.e., student parents).
- Plan and implement COMPASS-related events such as Family Day for student parents and their families.
- Advise the student-parent support student organization.
Drop Off Child Care (DOCC) Operations and Expansion (60%):
- Manage scheduling for parents and employees and monitor payment systems issuing receipts and refunds as needed.
- Monitor enrollment processes and procedures for parents and children using Drop Off Child Care (DOCC) services.
- Train and supervise student employees of the Drop Off Child Care (DOCC) in using best practices of drop off childcare.
- Maintain sanitation and state regulations for drop off childcare.
- Ensure compliance with all state agencies.
- Demonstrate a sound knowledge of child growth and development and good practices for ages 1-8.
- Collaborate and provide feedback to grant faculty and administration on the services provided by drop off childcare.
- Expand drop off childcare services by increasing hours of operation and increasing locations across campus.
- Create curriculum for activities and differentiate among those levels to meet individual child’s needs for children ages 1-8 years old.
- Monitor and create budget and make purchases for materials as needed to operate drop off childcare services.
- Collaborate with NDCDC director and teachers on use of NDCDC space for DOCC at Darden.
- Model highest quality care in Drop Off Child Care (DOCC).
- Other duties as assigned.
University Leadership and Administration (10%):
- Maintain positive relations with HDFS, ECU, and community partners.
- Provide information for internal and external community partners.
- Present at local, state, and national conferences and other events focused on grant services.
- Attend and participate in committees that support student success.

Minimum Education/Experience
Relevant Master’s degree; or relevant BS/BA with three years of relevant work experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Work experience in childcare facilities and early childhood education is preferred.
Familiarity with curriculum, state and national laws, and standards of accreditation and licensure in the childcare field is preferred.
