East Central Kansas Cooperative in Education Opening for Transportation Aide
Job Title: Transportation Aide
Reports To: USD 491 Director of Transportation or Designee
Department: Transportation
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, approximately 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Position Summary:
The Transportation Aide assists students with safe and orderly transportation to a specialized program in Paola. This position provides support to students with special needs and behavioral challenges and ensures a secure and caring environment during transport.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist students with boarding and exiting the transportation vehicle safely.

Ensure all students are properly seated and secured, including the use of seat belts.

Monitor student behavior and provide support or redirection as necessary to maintain a safe and respectful transportation environment.

Communicate effectively and respectfully with students, bus drivers, school staff, and parents/guardians.

Maintain awareness of student behavior plans, or emergency protocols, and assist in implementing such plans as trained.

Respond appropriately in emergency or crisis situations.

Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with district policy and FERPA.

Complete required training.

Assist with student supervision at loading zones when directed.

Report any concerns about student behavior, safety, or well-being to appropriate personnel.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED required.

Experience working with children or students with special needs preferred, but not required.
Skills and Abilities:

Ability to work cooperatively and patiently with children and adults.

Good judgment, communication skills, and problem-solving abilities.
-
Dependable and punctual with strong attention to safety.
