- Connecticut State Department of Education certification as administrator/supervisor (092)
- Connecticut Special Education certification
- Five years successful teaching as a special education teacher
- A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Knowledge of Special Education curriculum and programming
- Prior experience with Pre School and Autism Programs preferred
- Understanding of differentiated instruction and tiered systems of support
- Ability to communicate effectively and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, parents, administrators and other professionals
- Ability to articulate goals of district regarding LRE and inclusion
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
- Collaborates with Department Director Student Support to prioritize department, school, or district-wide projects/cases needing support.
- Collaborates with district administrators, including the offices of Student Services and Office of School Performance to support students and staff
- Support teachers, support staff, students, or families related to service delivery in the least restrictive environment.
- Assist in the data management/state and district data management platforms.
- Support special education programming across the district and in assigned schools
- Assist with grant applications, as needed.
- Review/collaborate on high profile district cases to assists and guide general and special education teachers in observing, describing, and referring students to various supports.
- Participate in student support sessions (SSS) and other department and school meetings.
- Assist in the transition of students between schools, programs, etc. to ensure LRE and FAPE is being followed.
- Assist IEP teams in the development of IEP’s aligned with identified student’s needs.
- Attend and lead Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meetings as needed or requested .
- Understand curricular goals and objectives and means of modifying and adapting these goals for student with disabilities.
- Reviews student case histories to advise academic, social and emotional support
- Collaborates and consults with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement district initiatives.
- Assist in the oversight of log entries, safe school climate specialists (SSCS) documentation, and incoming calls to the department.
- Design and implement parent activities to provide information regarding responsible inclusion practices.
- Assist in oversight of case management of out of district (OOD) and related services.
- Provides professional development, consultation, co-teaching, and modeling techniques for teachers and staff as needed/requested by the Department Director.
- Assist in the supporting of new teachers and DSAP candidates.
- Assumes such other functions as may be determined/assigned by the Superintendent and/or Department Director.

Job Goal:To assure that the needs of all children are met through Child Find, the PPT process and successful implementation of IEPs, IFSPs and ISPs for students designated the responsibility of East Hartford Public Schools and to improve Special Education student performance in grades PreK – 12.
Performance:
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-month year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.
EVALUATION:Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
