General Summary
In accordance with the established policies and procedures of the East Lansing Public School District, the Building Instructional Paraprofessional is responsible for assisting teachers with teaching-related activities as well as non-teaching activities as requested. The duties listed below are not all-inclusive but are indicative of the responsibilities of this position.
About the Role
- Types various instructional materials, correspondence, memos, reports and handouts for classroom use.
- Duplicates and prepares materials for teachers.
- Assists with preparing staff and parent communications for mailings and/or electronic distribution.
- Assists in arranging for field trips.
- Assists with recess duty.
- Maintains responsibility for keeping copy machines in good working condition including monitoring supplies.
- Assists in school management tasks including covering the office at scheduled times.
- Maintains responsibility for frequent student management and instruction in the classroom under the supervision of the classroom teacher such as checking student assignments, working with individual students or small groups, observing and identifying student behaviors & learning styles and bringing concerns to the classroom teacher.
- Travels to other buildings to perform responsibilities, when requested.
Education, Knowledge and Skills Required
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- The demonstrated ability to use basic office and audiovisual equipment is required.
- The demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing is required.
- The demonstrated ability to work with students at this age level.
- The demonstrated ability to work with computer programs including basic word processing is desired.
- The demonstrated ability to perform basic math functions and basic record keeping tasks is required.
- The demonstrated ability to develop effective working relationships with staff and the school community.
- The ability to push and/or pull up to 220 pounds on a wheeled cart is required.
