What are the responsibilities and job description for the Elementary ESL Teacher position at East Longmeadow Public Schools?

The Role: East Longmeadow School District seeks applicants for the position of ELL Teacher for Grades 2-5. Massachusetts English as a Second Language (PreK-6) licensure is required. Qualified candidates must:
  • Establish and maintain a safe, nurturing and engaging learning environment
  • Provide English as a Second Language instruction to all identified EL students in grades 2-5 in small groups and/or co-teaching with general education teacher
  • Plan and deliver dynamic and creative lessons that reflect the diverse educational, cultural and linguistic backgrounds of students and that are aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, the principles of Universal Design for Learning and District approved high-quality instructional materials
  • Administer a wide variety of assessments and utilize data to inform instruction
  • Provide the appropriate level of support to students on the higher level of language proficiency and monitor FEL students to ensure continued success.
  • Collaborate with the other two district-wide ESL teachers to determine ESL eligibility of incoming students, assist in administering ACCESS tests, maintain records required by DESE and provide the Director of Curriculum with requested documents in a timely manner.
  • Utilize assessment data to inform instruction
  • Collaborate with a wide range of colleagues at the school and district level
  • Coordinate and administer all aspects of ACCESS testing
  • Support classroom teachers with inclusionary practices
  • Establish and maintain culturally-sensitive communication with parents/guardians/caregivers including sending required documentation
  • Be passionate about teaching and learning and love working with children
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Curriculum
