What are the responsibilities and job description for the Networking Instructor position at East Mississippi Community College?
General Statement of Function: To set-up, manage, and maintain a lecture & lab with courses being taught to prepare students to enter the workforce.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teaches all classes and labs as assigned;
- Demonstrates a thorough understanding of the subject;
- Communicates with students the goals, objectives, and expectations of the course;
- Assigns learning activities which promote understanding of the course content;
- Keeps accurate records of attendance and grades and submits all reports and other requested information promptly and accurately;
- Maintains discipline in the classroom;
- Attends faculty meetings and other required meetings as prescribed;
- Improves command of subject matter by enrolling in advanced programs of study and seminars as opportunity affords;
- Meets all classes promptly and regularly and begins and ends class on time;
- Participates actively in professional development opportunities in the discipline;
- Maintains required office and class hours;
- Participates in departmental meetings;
- Serves as sponsor and advisor for student clubs and other student activities when appropriate;
- Opportunities for Adjunct Summer teaching, Summer Academies, Summer Camps and/or Workforce Training.
- Effectively communicates with, cooperates with and supports other college personnel in daily activities;
- Participates in maintaining an effective and continuous recruiting program;
- Completes and submits all reports required for beginning and continuing accreditation of the program as defined by the governing agency;
- Fulfills other duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Vice President and President.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements:
The individual instructor is the key figure in the educational pattern of the college, and his/her attitude, personality, skill, character, and initiative will determine how well the college fulfills its objectives. He/she plays a prominent role in curriculum development through continual evaluation. Demonstration of excellent communication and interpersonal skills, initiative, and flexibility is required. Preference will be given to applicants who meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Associate degree in computer or related field
- Minimum of two years of current experience in applicable area to teaching field
- Experience with Networking Principles Including Routing and Switching Technologies
- Experience with Python Programming, HTML Programming, and Linux OS’s
- A Certification – must be obtained within 1 year of hire
- Network Certifications – must be obtained within 1 year of hire
- Cisco Academy Program Training as an Instructor – must be completed prior to teaching Cisco courses
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- Familiarity with Networking, Security, and Database instruction at a Community College level and/or other college-level teaching experience
- Certified in A and Network
- Multi-media instructional delivery experience.
