What are the responsibilities and job description for the Coordinator of the Gender and Sexuality Center position at East Stroudsburg University?

East Stroudsburg University is hiring a Coordinator for the Gender and Sexuality Center! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU’s proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers and social activities. Just minutes from campus are the country’s largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational fun.

As the Coordinator of the Gender and Sexuality Center, you will need to think creatively and be comfortable overseeing the operations of the Gender and Sexuality Center. You will be an active member of the Campus Life and Inclusive Excellence team and will work closely with the Director of the Center for Multicultural Affairs and Inclusive Education to advocate on behalf of all sexual orientations and gender identities while creating a culture of awareness and understanding of the issues facing women and the LGBTQA populations. You will thrive in this role if you like combining your experience serving students of diverse cultures, ethnicities, and races and your customer care and support skills while creating a safe and inclusive environment within the GSC that welcomes all sexual orientations and gender identities. To be successful in this role, you must be student-centered, empathetic, and knowledgeable about diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.

Your typical schedule will be Monday to Friday 8 am – 4:30 pm, but you may have to flex your schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a true Coordinator. What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties)

  • Oversee operations of the GSC including but not limited to providing information, programs, and guidance to resources regarding sexual misconduct, facility management, assigning work for undergraduate student workers, scheduling the Center’s usage, managing communications, interacting with the campus and public constituents, and budget management.
  • Manage social media, website, and any other online platforms for the GSC.
  • Establish clear learning and service outcome goals, perform assessments, and monitor outcomes for the GSC.
  • Establish the Gender and Sexuality Center Advisory Board and convene meetings with the board quarterly; serve on other campus and community committees such as the Campus Community Coalition and the Bias Incident Response Team.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to market the GSC as a resource center for the professional advancement of women and LGBTQA populations.
  • Develop relationships with campus and community partners to create new initiatives and sustain existing programs focused on inclusivity, health, equality, gender, leadership, career development, and advocacy.
  • Develop marketing and outreach strategies to ensure students, faculty, staff, and community members access and participate in programs.
  • Collaborate with the Department of Health and Wellness on large-scale campus-wide programs such as the Domestic Violence Candle Vigil and Take Back the Night.
  • Assist in the development and support of the Women of Color Initiative and Men of Color Alliance.
  • Collaborate with Residential Life and Housing to support and sustain the House of Sylvia (LGBTQIA ) Special Interest Housing.
  • Manage the development and use of the GSC Baby Pantry and campus lactation spaces.
  • Perform related work as required.

What We're Looking For (AKA Qualifications)

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Women and Gender Studies, Social Work, Counseling, Public Health, or another related field or Master’s degree in progress with an estimated graduation date.
  • Minimum of three years of professional experience working in Women’s or LBGTQA Centers, Women’s Resources, Gender Advocacy, and/or in higher education serving students of diverse cultures, ethnicities, and races.
  • Exemplary customer care and support skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and cope with stressful situations, and handle matters with discretion and sensitivity.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current law and policy changes that impact women and LGBTQA and experience acting as a resource and referral person for individuals seeking assistance.
  • Demonstrated success in program development that addresses sexuality and gender issues.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of gender equity issues and social justice concerns.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence in the intersectionality of identities including but not limited to race, culture, religion, class, ethnicity, ability, queer, and trans.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, and Excel, and collaborative software such as SharePoint and Zoom.
  • Strong interpersonal and listening skills, excellent verbal and writing skills.
  • Strong prioritization, analytical, organizational and communications skills.
