General Summary
Under the supervision of a Complex Director, the Graduate Hall Director (GHD) coordinates and implements a comprehensive program for 250-400 residents in one or two residence halls that will enhance their academic, career, social, and interpersonal success.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
A bachelor's degree is required.
Prior experience in programming for undergraduate students and at least one year of experience living in a residence hall are required.
All Graduate Hall Directors must be full-time, degree-admitted graduate students at Eastern Michigan University in the Higher Education Student Affairs program or a related program.
A strong undergraduate academic record and excellent interpersonal skills are required.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates should be currently admitted to a graduate program at Eastern Michigan University
Additional Information
The start date for this position is August 3, 2026. The successful candidate will be expected to arrive on campus and move into their assigned hall July 31, 2026 - August 2, 2026.
All graduate assistantships are offered under the guidelines of the EMU Graduate School. Those hired by Housing and Residence Life (HRL) are subject to all rules and protocols as determined by the graduate school, in addition to any work rules for HRL. The stipend includes a tuition waiver for nine credit hours for the fall and winter semesters and a $9,000 academic year stipend. A furnished apartment or suite, meal plan during the term of employment.

- Supervising, training, and motivating a staff of 5-11 Resident Advisors, assessing resident needs, and monitoring the staff budget.
- The GHD also assists the Complex Director in implementing administrative responsibilities for the unit(s), including but not limited to:
- Conduct Roommate Mediations
- Care Report follow-up
- On-call Duty Rotation
- Managing hall operations in the Complex Director's absence.
