We are looking for a Design Engineer to design, develop, test, and integrate high-pressure gaseous fuel components and systems for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Hydrogen applications in automotive, truck, and virtual pipeline sectors.
This is a full-time role (M-F) onsite in Irvine, CA.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of high-pressure components and systems.
- Conduct and support design activities, including Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP).
- Evaluate, select, and qualify supplier products and services to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Plan, oversee, and perform product verification and validation testing to ensure system reliability and performance.
- Provide support for field services and conduct root cause analyses for system failures.
- Apply knowledge of material compatibility issues related to hydrogen and natural gas to ensure system integrity.
- Utilize a systematic and logical approach to engineering and design processes to achieve optimal solutions.
- Perform analytical calculations, such as load and flow analyses, to inform design decisions.
- Collaborate effectively with customers, vendors, engineers, and manufacturing personnel to ensure project success.
- Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills to convey technical information clearly.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation, including test procedures and reports, to support project transparency and traceability.
- Adopt and implement Quality Assurance Procedures and Departmental Work Instructions as outlined in the Quality and Environmental Management System (QEMS) Employee Training Matrix.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on high-pressure systems.
- Possession of a valid driver's license, access to a reliable vehicle, and maintenance of necessary insurance coverage, as the position may require driving for business purposes.
- Willingness to travel occasionally as required by project needs.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in high-pressure system design and component selection, particularly with hydrogen and CNG applications.
- Knowledge of high-pressure gaseous fuel storage systems and associated safety protocols.
- Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software; experience with NX Unigraphics is preferred.
- Experience in designing large modular assemblies for automotive applications.
- Background in product development within the automotive industry, with an understanding of industry standards and regulations.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to spend time on the production floor, which may involve standing for extended periods, kneeling, and crouching.
- In an office setting, proficiency in using hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, telephone keypad, or to write.
- Capability to talk and hear effectively to communicate with team members.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
- Occasionally able to lift up to 40 pounds.
