The Mortgage Loan Officer is responsible for originating quality first mortgage loans that provide value to the organization while delivering high levels of service to our members. Primarily serves existing members and incoming EastRise inquiries via multiple channels including online, phone, virtual, and in-person appointments during set office days to ensure branch coverage. Efficiently handles large volumes of unassigned applications based on market conditions. Maintains relationships with realtors and ensures high satisfaction to grow referral business in addition to the internal focus.
The Mortgage Loan Officer is eligible for commission pay on top of base salary.
Description
A minimum of one year of similar or related experience, including preparatory experience.
Education/Certifications/Licenses
High school degree, or equivalent. Incumbents are required to maintain their registration active, and current, with the National Mortgage Licensing System throughout their employment.
Interpersonal Skills
A significant level of trust, creditability and diplomacy is required to be an effective subject matter expert in the position. In depth dialogues, conversations and explanations with members, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature is a normal part of the day-to-day experience. Communications can involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance.
Other Skills
Must be at least 18 years of age. Favorable Background, Credit, Criminal, Bondability, and Reference Checks required. (Motor Vehicle check dependent on position.) Travel to other branches or locations may be required depending on position. Knowledge of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac guidelines is required. Bilingual skills are a plus.

Description
- Receives, inputs, and screens loan inquiries and applications. Conducts loan interviews with members. Thoughtfully discusses their needs, eligibility, and educates them on available programs and the loan process. Informs members of loan details including rate, payment, and closing costs. Reviews all pertinent loan disclosures with the member. Prepares a complete, accurate, and thorough file for underwriting review.
- Gathers pertinent financial data and documentation based on the loan request and borrower(s) financial profile, including employment history, property information, and assets. Requests, reviews, and analyzes borrower(s) credit reports and financial situation. Requests the appraisal on the property and/or construction plans and specs.
- Manages personal calendar schedule based on departmental guidelines, providing a consistent branch presence in an assigned location. Maintains in-office days, arriving on time and ready to serve members. Keeps calendar and communicates with the team about availability. Works closely with the branch staff to develop a branch relationship and branch referral sources. Assists members by cross-selling other credit union programs and services.
- Maintains constant communication and a high level of service with branch staff, realtors, attorneys, builders, and other business partners to assure a favorable image of the organization. Maintains professional relationships in the community and with past borrowers to grow referral base.
- Exhibits problem-solving and decision-making skills. Relies on underwriting guideline resources and/or mortgage department manuals as needed. Maintains high knowledge of FHLMC, FNMA, FHLB, EastRise portfolio, VHFA, VA, RD, and Private Mortgage Insurance guidelines. Stays up to date on mortgage products and programs. Remains efficient and knowledgeable with required mortgage software. Completes all assigned training and certifications on or before due dates and to quality expectations. Maintains member satisfaction as measured by survey cards with a 95% level at “meets” or “exceeds” ratings.
- Manages mortgage loan application pipeline in conjunction with Mortgage Loan Assistants, Mortgage Underwriters, Construction Loan Coordinators, Mortgage Loan Processors and Mortgage Loan Closers to achieve maximum efficiency and member/realtor satisfaction. Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.
