Job Summary
The Sterile Processing Technician plays a crucial role in the healthcare environment by ensuring that all surgical instruments and medical equipment are properly cleaned, sterilized, and maintained. The technician will work closely with surgical teams to ensure that all necessary instruments are available and functioning correctly for procedures.
Responsibilities
- Clean, disinfect, and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment according to established protocols.
- Inspect instruments for functionality and cleanliness before use.
- Maintain accurate inventory records of sterilized items and report any discrepancies.
- Utilize aseptic techniques to prevent contamination during the processing of medical equipment.
- Collaborate with surgical staff to ensure timely availability of sterile instruments for procedures.
- Adhere to safety standards and infection control policies at all times.
- Participate in ongoing training and education regarding new sterilization techniques and equipment.
Requirements
- Knowledge of sterile processing techniques and practices is essential.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology is preferred.
- Experience in inventory management related to medical supplies is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow precise instructions.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Certification in sterile processing or related field is advantageous but not required; willingness to obtain certification is expected.
