Description
The Sexual Health Registered Nurse provides reproductive health and sexual health education and services as part of El Centro’s comprehensive reproductive health program. The position’s aim to prevent or reduce the incidence of HIV/STI and bloodborne pathogens. Promotes community wellness through health promotion, education, screening, and intervention activities.
Essential Functions
- Offers education, and counseling to individuals and populations at risk of sexually transmitted infections and blood-borne infections.
- Provide clinical advice, information, education, and counseling to clients for testing, diagnosing, and treatment of a sexually transmitted infection or blood-borne infection as per guidelines (e.g. chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, Hepatitis C) and refers patient to partner notification services as needed.
- Provides education and counseling about sexually transmitted infections and safer sex practices, harm reduction strategies, as well as support to persons at risk of contracting STI.
- Collaborates with City of Houston and/or Harris County Public Health for reporting and surveillance purposes of screening, diagnosis, treatment, and management of sexually transmitted infections and blood-borne infections and ordering/stocking of medications for treatment.
- Provide screening and immunizations relevant to sexual health, as per immunization guidelines.
- Provide services to patients of all ages in an appropriate, culturally safe, and judgment-free environment including transgender individuals and non-conforming.
- Assess patients’ eligibility and contraindications to all methods of contraception and provide health teaching as per product monographs.
- Provides supportive pregnancy options, counseling, and follow-up to care as needed.
- Participates in El Centro’s compliance, risk, and patient safety, quality assurance, and performance improvement (QAPI) activities.
Qualifications
- Bilingual in English/Spanish required (Written/Spoken)
- At least two years of paid experience in providing reproductive health services including sexual health.
- Current registration in Texas as a Registered Nurse (BSN)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification is required.
Salary : $80,000 - $90,000
