Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for an Estimator / Project Manager located in Alvarado, TX. The Estimator / Project Manager will be responsible for preparing cost estimates, managing budgets, and overseeing fabrication and erection projects from initial bid through completion. This role combines hands-on estimating expertise with project management oversight to ensure accuracy, profitability and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate understands structural and miscellaneous steel systems, fabrication processes and construction sequencing.
Key Estimating Responsibilities
- Review architectural, structural and civil & mechanical drawings to prepare accurate quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for steel fabrication and erection.
- Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes for materials, coatings and field services.
- Develop and submit competitive, detailed proposals within project deadlines.
- Identify cost-saving strategies and value-engineering opportunities to improve competitive position.
- May require meeting with clients in office for Pre-Bid or Pre-Construction meetings.
Key Project Management Responsibilities
- Coordinate project schedules with shop & field, budgets and resources from contract award through completion.
- Serve as primary contact for clients, general contractors and engineers throughout the project lifecycle.
- Manage fabrication and delivery schedules, ensuring compliance with contract specifications and timelines.
- Oversee subcontractor performance, engineering submittals and change order documentation.
- Monitor costs, progress and field installation activities to maintain profitability.
- Lead project meetings and resolve issues related to scope, schedules or logistics.
- May require traveling to jobsites for coordination meetings.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain project records including RFI's, submittals, change orders and invoices.
- Prepare monthly cost and progress reports for management review.
- Ensure adherence to safety standards and company quality control processes.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with structural and miscellaneous estimating.
- Familiarity with erection sequencing and field coordination.
- Working knowledge of project management systems.
- PMP or CWI certification is a plus.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred but not required.
- 3 years of Estimating and/or Project Management experience in the steel fabrication or construction industry.
- Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Bluebeam, Tekla and estimating software (STRUMIS, Tekla Structures, Tekla PowerFab or similar).
- Ability to understand and interpret drawings.
- Excellent Communication skills to collaborate with teams, clients, and stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work efficiently and stay organized in a fast-paced environment.
- Prior knowledge of construction industry practices and methodologies is a plus.
