Job Summary:
The Pump Mechanic is responsible for the disassembly, mechanical inspection, troubleshooting, and re-assembly of all types, sizes, and configurations of pumps and blowers to include Submersible Pumps, Close-Coupled Pumps, End Suction Radial Pumps, Vertical Turbine Pumps, Axial Split Case Pumps, and Centrifugal Pumps/Blowers.
This position reports directly to the shop foreman/assistant foreman and has no supervisory responsibilities.

Job Requirements:
Education, Experience, and Knowledge
- High School Diploma or Certificate from applicable trade/technical school, combined with 5 years in the rotating machinery industry. Qualified individuals with 10 years of hands-on experience in lieu of trade school certification will be eligible for consideration.
- Basic 3 phase electrical knowledge and familiarity with standard electrical testing equipment, to include: megohmmeters, multimeters, ammeters, winding resistance meters, Low/High Voltage Test Panels, etc. (Will train qualified candidates on electrical parameters if necessary)
- Ability to accurately and effectively use typical mechanical measuring equipment to include Inside/Outside Micrometers, vernier calipers, depth gauges, steel rulers, etc. (typical measuring equipment utilized daily in a machine shop environment).
- Accurately and effectively read, understand, and interpret pump specific technical manuals, component drawings and sketches, follow industry standards and practices, interpret, and follow customer specifications/requirements and company policies/procedures.
- Ability to solve complex problems with clear analytical thought, considering multiple factors and tradeoffs.
- Disassemble, troubleshoot, and reassemble various types of motor-driven pumps and blowers.
- Effectively clean and prepare mechanical/electrical components for inspection using typical shop equipment to include sandblasters, cabinet blasters, dip tanks, steam wash pits, bake ovens, etc.
- Examine parts for defects, such as eccentricities, rubs, wear, excessive damage, etc.
- Perform detailed mechanical and visual component inspections to determine root cause of failure, documenting all relevant ‘As-Found’ data (register fits, internal bores, outer diameters, etc.) on applicable forms.
- Recommend disposition on company job cards and Customer spec sheets.
- Perform service calls for emergency breakdowns, if necessary.
- Safely oversee lifting/ rigging of all equipment, weighing upwards of 25 tons.
- Lead and mentor less experienced mechanics throughout each phase of the repair process.
- Balance rotating assemblies to an industry standard of 4W/N, utilizing all shop balancing equipment.
- Perform hydrostatic pressure testing on refurbished pumps, prior to shipment back to customer.
- Perform criteria acceptance testing on close coupled pump motors, submersible pump motors, etc.
- Provide own tools and basic measuring equipment (Large/Specialty tooling and electrical testing equipment is provided by the company).
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Be willing and able to maintain availability and dependability, as this position requires a flexible work schedule, to include extended hours, nights, and weekends, when required (Overtime).
- Be able to lift and carry up to fifty pounds.
