What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavior Support Staff position at Elite Academy?
Elite Academy, a private special education day school, is seeking energetic and compassionate individuals who love working with children! The ideal candidate will assist with implementing a classroom behavior management program designed to promote the appropriate classroom behaviors and social skills necessary to optimize student learning and success.
Responsibilities
Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:
1. Monitor and manage behavior of students during the entire school day.
2. Provide in-class behavioral support and circulate among students while modeling appropriate social skills.
3. Implement behavior management plan for designated students and maintain accurate documentation of student behavior to assist with appropriate program planning and placement.
4. Maintain accurate documentation of student behavior, attendance, Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and contacts
5. Appropriately and professionally communicate behavior concerns/issues with teacher, school counselor, administration, and student’s guardian(s).
6. Assist with classroom instruction as necessary.
7. Provide counseling/behavioral interventions and support in the classroom.
8. Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents/guardians and community members.
9. Participate in staff development program.
10. Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.
11. At all times model professional and ethical behavior.
12. Keep informed of and comply with Virginia Department of Education and Elite Academy’s regulations and policies.
13. Perform additional duties as necessary.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Excellent communication skills.
Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the role.
Preferred Qualifications
1 year providing children/students with counseling and behavioral health redirection.
Knowledge of behavioral and mental health interventions.
Working with intellectual, developmental and/or behavioral deficits (1 year).
