The Academic Coach serves as a mentor, educator, and guide, supporting the academic, social, and emotional development of students. This role requires a values-driven individual who can personalize instruction, build strong relationships, and collaborate with families, staff, and athletic coaches to ensure student success in both academic and extracurricular pursuits.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Coaching
- Deliver personalized academic coaching in core subject areas.
- Develop and implement individualized learning plans aligned with student goals.
- Support students in both in-person and hybrid learning environments.
- Utilize digital tools and learning management systems to support instruction, track student progress, and facilitate hybrid learning environments.
- Integrate social-emotional learning (SEL) and trauma-informed practices into daily instruction.
- Use academic data and performance metrics to inform instructional strategies, personalize learning plans, and implement timely interventions.
Student Support & Mentorship
- Build strong, trusting relationships with students to foster engagement and motivation.
- Monitor academic progress and provide timely feedback and interventions.
- Guide students in setting academic and personal goals and developing strategies to achieve them.
- Support students in exploring post-secondary pathways, including college, entrepreneurship, and career planning, with a focus on NCAA eligibility and academic readiness for student-athletes.
- Support student-athletes in balancing academic and athletic commitments.
Family & Community Engagement
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and behavior.
- Collaborate with parents, coaches, and staff to support student development.
- Participate in family engagement events, conferences, and community outreach.
Collaboration & Professionalism
- Work closely with other Academic Coaches, administrators, and athletic staff.
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and interventions.
- Participate in ongoing professional development, training, and reflective practice to stay current with educational best practices and support continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Experience working with K–12 students in academic or mentoring roles.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Human Development, or related field.
- Experience with microschooling, hybrid learning, or alternative education models.
- Familiarity with NCAA eligibility requirements and academic planning for student-athletes.
- Bilingual or multilingual (especially Spanish) is a plus.
- Experience with SEL, trauma-informed practices, and culturally responsive teaching.

Schedule & Compensation
- Schedule: In-person, Monday–Thursday, 8:00 AM–2:00 PM (4–6 hour shifts); occasional Fridays, evenings, or weekends with advance notice.
- Compensation: $20–$35/hour DOE professional development and growth opportunities.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $20.00 - $35.00 per hour
Expected hours: 16 – 24 per week
