Overview & Responsibilities Overview Performs all necessary assembly and test functions required to produce semi-standard or specialty turbomachinery, supercharges, and vertical and horizontal blowers. Responsibilities Receives instructions from supervision. Receives parts and sub-assemblies in work area. Works from drawings, bills of material and assembly forms. Builds up piping and supports from blueprints and test forms. Assembles turbomachinery using specified assembly procedure and maintaining specified dimensions and clearances. Makes mechanical attachments and operates electric motors and test units. Sets unit in position, aligns, secures and make pre-run checks. Operates unit to make adjustments and observations including instruments and auxiliaries as required. Records performance data on specified forms. Records settings and initials forms. Burns various material to construct and disassembly scaffolding and piping supports as necessary. Checks unit for malfunctions, taking necessary correction action where possible. Makes after test disassembly and inspections as required. Operates all test equipment such as condensers, ejectors, pumps, portable generators, drivers etc., as required to serve units on test. Prepares unit for shipment. Operates lube oil and transfer pumps, valves, fittings, strainers, etc., as required to server units on test. Add new oil to system as necessary. Heats material for shrink fits. Mounts couplings on shafts. Cleans and services the associated filters, strainers as required. Logs and records replenishments, servicing, assembly diary, etc. Uses hoist, unlimited pendant and overhead crane(s) as required, occasionally performs crane hooking. Maintains good housekeeping by keeping tools, material and equipment in proper place. Reports production count, time and identifying data by use of data collecting machines. Reports defective material and equipment to supervision. Observes all safety rules. Operates “Posi-trip” calibrating machine to calibrate individual trip parts. Operates portable drill press to drill and tap bolt holes in base plates. Heats parts or material for assembly, as required. Disconnects Bentley or I.R.D. vibration pickups. Read and record vibration readings by use of Church Vibrometer, Bentley or I.R.D. Monitoring systems, etc. Disassembles apparatus, locates trouble or malfunctions and checks various parts for damage as indicated on section report. Operates riding work saver as required. Maintains and operates fire protection equipment. Assembly/operation of gas face seals. Handling/set-up of electronic governors. Installation, maintenance, operation of gas turbines. Assembly/operation of magnetic bearings. Conducts any special test (including hydrotest) as required. Grinds burrs from material delivered to the Test Floor as necessary. Maintain test auxiliaries inventory. Operate standby generator for oil supply system. Assemble existing oil drains and vacuum lines as necessary. 44 Install water lines for coolers as necessary. Install and remove various types of insulation. Bluing checks for hubs, bearings, splits, etc. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Must be able and willing to work 1st (7am-3pm), 2nd (3pm-11pm) and 3rd (11pm-7am) shifts. Shifts are not guaranteed and are subject to shift realignment. Must be able and willing to work overtime, weekends and holidays.
