Director of Rehabilitation and Respiratory Therapy

The role of the Director of Rehabilitation Services oversees daily operations of the Rehabilitation and Respiratory departments; plans and administers medically prescribed occupational therapy treatment for patients suffering from injuries, or muscle, nerve, joint and bone diseases, to work toward functional restoration, pain relief, and the prevention of disability.

Wage: Starting at $84,000 annually

Schedule: 40hrs/ week Monday- Friday

Primary Responsibilities:

• Directs the department public relations and marketing, and helps the hospital and profession with public relations by helping with health fairs, giving direction, answering questions, and assisting with programs for public visitors, patients families, physicians, etc.
• Selects, trains/orients, and assigns department staff. Assists with training new employees and annual education of all hospital staff.
• Supervises all Rehab and Respiratory employees and provide contract service employees for the department to maintain adequate employee staffing.
• Creates annually and reports monthly on the Rehabilitation and Respiratory departmental budget. Further monitors budget components to assure the department operates within the budget.
• Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions.
• Develops department goals and objectives and establishes and implements policies and procedures for the department operation.
• Oversees daily activities of the department to optimize productivity.
• Develops, implements, and coordinates the departments quality improvement program.
• Oversees department inventory and requisitions supplies and equipment as needed.
• Participates in organization committee requirements as needed.
• Establishes and maintains communication within the hospital. Develops relationships with professional affiliations and others as is appropriate.
• Oversees new treatment procedures and related protocol. Encourages and approves introduction and demonstration of new techniques, equipment, etc.
• Oversees the maintenance of departmental facilities, equipment, supplies and materials in a condition to promote efficiency, health, comfort, and safety of patients, visitors, and staff.
• Reviews Physicians referral (prescription), patients condition, and medical records as needed to determine the appropriate occupational therapy required.
• Obtains appropriate patient history, answers patient questions, and explains procedures.
• Performs O.T. evaluations and all procedures that the department provides under orders from a licensed dentist, podiatrist, or physician.
• Evaluates effects of treatment at various stages and adjusts treatments to achieve maximum benefit.
• Oversees all department employees documentation and prepares own written documentation as required by the profession and the department, such as evaluation results, individualized treatment plans, progress reports and other such reports.
• Oversees and performs office filing, record maintenance, and scheduling of appointments for all rehabilitation services as needed.
• Oversees and participates in patient care review as needed.
• Oversees departmental and completes own patient discharge planning and discharge paperwork on a timely basis.
• Oversees and provides educational in-services for the department and hospital as necessary.
• Oversees the selection, operation, and maintenance of department equipment for efficient operating order; oversees performance of preventative maintenance on a regularly scheduled basis; oversees department equipment service.
• Oversees departmental staffs and enhances own professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
• Perform other such duties, as assigned.

Education:

• Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapist program which typically equates to at least 5 years of formal education or training -OR- Bachelors Degree required

Experience:

• Previous experience as a Director of Rehabilitation or Director of Occupational Therapy preferred.
• Minimum of three years experience as an Occupational Therapist required.

Certifications/ Registrations:
