Job Overview
We are hiring a Peer Recovery Specialist to provide peer-based recovery support to men living in a recovery residence. This non-clinical position is grounded in lived experience, mutual support, and recovery-oriented principles. Peer Recovery Specialists support residents in building recovery skills, maintaining accountability, and connecting to community resources that support long-term sobriety.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide peer support through shared lived experience in recovery
- Build strong, respectful relationships with men in early recovery
- Model healthy recovery behaviors, boundaries, and coping skills
- Support residents with daily living skills and recovery routines
- Encourage participation in mutual-aid meetings and recovery activities
- Assist with new resident orientation and community integration
- Help maintain a safe, structured, and recovery-focused living environment
- Reinforce house expectations using peer support (not discipline)
- Complete required documentation accurately and on time
- Communicate appropriately with supervisors and team members
- Attend staff meetings, trainings, and supervision
This Position Is Not
- A clinical, counseling, or therapy role
- Responsible for diagnosis or treatment planning
- A disciplinary or law-enforcement role
Required Qualifications
- Lived experience in recovery from substance use disorder (SUD)
- At least 1 year of sustained recovery
- Commitment to peer support values and recovery ethics
- Ability to maintain healthy peer boundaries
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Dependable and able to work independently and as part of a team
- High school diploma or GED preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Adult Peer Support Specialist (APSS) or willingness to obtain
- Community Support Associate (CSA) or willingness to obtain
- Experience in recovery housing, peer support, or community-based services
- Knowledge of Kentucky recovery resources and mutual-aid communities
- Experience mentoring or supporting individuals in recovery
