DSP (Direct Support Professional)

EmployAbility is Savannah’s premier day service center, providing superior services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We are seeking supportive Direct Support Professional candidates who are passionate about helping others. Our ideal candidate is excited to help adults with IDD live their best lives, and work to ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of program participants. Under general supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty connecting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to a wide array of community volunteer and enrichment activities, as well as assisting in the education and training of individuals with IDD. Completes daily documentation on program participants

Title: Direct Support Professional

Reports To: Day Services Manager

Department: Day Services

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

1. Assists in the education and training of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

2. Provides training to assist individuals with full participation in chosen community-based activities.

3. Encourages individuals to choose activities that are of interest to them. Plans group activities around the choices that have been made.

4. Will assist individuals with safely boarding and exiting vehicles. Transports individuals to community-based sites to enable volunteer and enrichment activities.

5. Implements and observes all health and safety requirements.

6. May be required to attend to participants’ personal needs, including feeding, toileting, and other personal care.

7. Provides counseling to individuals regarding acceptable appearance, attitude, and behavior.

8. Ensures open communication is maintained with Developmental Disability Professional (DDP) of individuals served in CAG.

9. Participates in the Individual Service Plan (ISP) process and assists with the development of outcomes and strategies designed to meet needs identified by participants, families, and other team members.

10. Assists with the cleaning and maintenance of classroom and training spaces.

11. In a timely and accurate manner, uses the computer to perform person centered documentation on individuals ensuring goals are addressed in accordance with funder requirements.

12. Participates on the Transportation Team which is responsible for providing safe transportation for individuals to and from EmployAbility daily using organization’s vehicles.

13. Must be able to obtain First Aid and CPR certification.

14. Maintains ongoing communication with DDP of individuals served.

15. All other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

2. Must have valid driver’s license and current insurance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Prior work experience in a similar professional environment.

2. Prior experience as Certified Nursing Assistant.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

1. Working Conditions: Will work indoors and outdoors in various training and enrichment environments.

2. Equipment Operation: Will operate an EmployAbility van to transport individuals to and from community partners’ sites. Computer work required.

3. Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and stand for long periods of time. Effective verbal and auditory communication skills are necessary. Vision must be adequate to safely operate vehicles and equipment.
