Job Overview
The Night Shift Parent plays a vital role in supporting and supervising youth ages 12–17 in a residential setting. This position focuses on youth development and behavior management, fostering a safe, structured, and nurturing environment during overnight hours. The role requires active engagement, leadership, and consistent communication with both youth and staff.
Responsibilities
Youth Supervision & Safety
- Stay alert and awake throughout the shift.
- Monitor youth behavior and well-being, including regular bed checks (every 30 minutes or 15 minutes if on a Safety Plan).
- Conduct verbal shift change reports at the start and end of each shift.
- Respond to emergencies and unusual incidents promptly.
Facility & Environment Maintenance
- Perform nightly cleaning tasks: empty trash, mop floors, sanitize bathrooms, tidy laundry and kitchen areas.
- Prepare breakfast before shift end (except on non-school days).
- Conduct home inspections and document concerns.
Documentation & Communication
- Maintain accurate progress notes and daily logs.
- Send status updates to Human Resources every 2 hours.
- Document services, incidents, and fire/emergency drills.
Youth Development & Support
- Encourage positive behavior through reinforcement and accountability.
- Provide transportation for late-night program events.
- Monitor and support youth’s medical, dental, and mental health needs.
- Assist with food service duties when needed.
Team Collaboration
- Communicate professionally with staff and youth.
- Attend staff meetings and complete at least 4 hours of training monthly.
- Collaborate with other agencies and community partners.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Strong commitment to youth development and safety
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and build respectful relationships
- Awareness of diversity and capacity to work with youth from varied backgrounds
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
