What are the responsibilities and job description for the Primary Counselor position at Enlightened Recovery?
The Primary Counselor is responsible for performing client care activities as directed by the Clinical Director. This position will provide group therapy as ordered by the Clinical Director. Collaborates with the Treatment Team in the formulation of the Master Treatment Plan, and assists in coordinating discharge planning.
- Actively participates in Multidisciplinary Treatment Plan meetings.
- Shares pertinent information with the team as obtained from client’s family, or others as indicated throughout the program.
- Attends daily and weekly staffing meetings per schedule.
- Evaluates the impact of therapeutic interventions upon the therapeutic milieu.
- Facilitates group therapy and completes subsequent documentation in a timely manner.
- Performs case management tasks with client/family. Caseload will include co-occurring clients.
- Assesses clients using ASAM and references DSM to determine need and appropriate level of care, continued need for services and transfer/discharge.
- Obtains any previous necessary records to accurately assess needs.
- Collaborates with client to develop a treatment plan and revise as needed.
- Creates transfer/discharge plan as required.
- Documents the assessment of client progress/regress and interventions provided in the medical record, on an ongoing basis.
- Recognizes, responds to and assists in psychiatric crisis situations and provide the intervention necessary.
- Responds and assists in medical emergency situations as directed and needed.
- Performs in a professional manner and role-models positive mental health and/or recovery maintenance.
- Communicates and coordinates with any necessary outside sources, such as mental health treatment providers, criminal justice agencies, schools, employers, child protective services, etc.
- Maintains personal education as it relates to evidence-based and evidence-informed clinical practice and patient care.
- Performs all other tasks as assigned.
- Maintains understanding of patient’s rights per the Mental Health Code, upholds patient’s rights, reports abuse of patients’ rights immediately and assists patients with filing complaints, as needed.
Education
Required: High School Diploma or GED
Required: CADC-M, CADC, CAADC, CCJP-R, CCDP – Bachelor's level only, OR CCDP-D – Master's level only
OR
For counselors: Certification through the Upper Midwest Indian Council on Addiction Disorders (UMICAD)
For Licensed Professional Counselors: National Certified Counselor (NCC) with concurrent Master Addictions Counselor (MAC) certification
Preferred: LBSW or LLBSW or are working toward these degrees or master's level degree.
Experience
A minimum of 2 years experience in chemical dependency setting.
Licensure/Certification
Required: CADC-M, CADC, CAADC, CCJP-R, CCDP – Bachelor's level only, OR CCDP-D – Master's level only
OR
For counselors: Certification through the Upper Midwest Indian Council on Addiction Disorders (UMICAD)
For Licensed Professional Counselors: National Certified Counselor (NCC) with concurrent Master Addictions Counselor (MAC) certification
Preferred: LBSW or LLBSW or are working toward these degrees or master's level degree.
Preferred: Current CPR certification
Knowledge and Training Required at Time of Hire
- Knowledge of the Principles and Practices of the discipline.
- Knowledge of Joint Commission Standards.
- Demonstrates Proficiency in Communication & Written skills.
- Knowledge of State & Federal Statutes Regarding Client Confidentiality laws.
- Knowledge of Drug-Free Workplace Policies.
- Knowledge of Workplace Violence.
Security Measure and Clearance
