Summary of Position: Richardson, Galena Park is seeking a Working Equipment Maintenance Manager to develop and implement maintenance strategies, supervise the maintenance team, and ensure compliance with safety standards. This role involves regular inspections, budget management, contractor coordination, and prompt response to equipment breakdowns.

Essential Duties:

  • Implement maintenance strategies to minimize downtime.
  • Supervise and manage the maintenance team.
  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Manage maintenance-related budgets.
  • Coordinate with external contractors and suppliers.
  • Implement initiatives to enhance maintenance procedures and reduce costs.
  • Address equipment breakdowns promptly.
  • Forklift diagnostic, repair, and documentation.

  • Starting Issues:
    • Problem: Forklifts may have difficulty starting, especially in cold weather.
    • Causes: Low battery charge, corroded terminals, faulty ignition switch, or a failing starter motor.
    • Solutions: Check and recharge the battery, clean terminals, test and replace the ignition switch, and inspect the starter motor
  • Hydraulic System Failures:
    • Problem: Difficulty in lifting or lowering loads smoothly.
    • Causes: Low hydraulic fluid levels, fluid contamination, clogged filters, or damaged seals.
    • Solutions: Refill hydraulic fluid, replace clogged filters, and inspect and replace damaged seals
  • Tire Wear and Damage:
    • Problem: Reduced traction and handling precision due to worn or damaged tires.
    • Causes: Overuse, under-inflation, or damage from rough terrain.
    • Solutions: Regularly inspect tires for cracks, bulges, and wear, maintain correct inflation levels, and replace worn or damaged tires promptly
  • Brake Problems:
    • Problem: Ineffective brakes leading to slow response times.
    • Causes: Worn brake pads, low brake fluid levels, or air trapped in hydraulic lines.
    • Solutions: Replace worn brake pads, refill brake fluid, and bleed air from brake lines
  • Overheating Engine:
    • Problem: Engine overheating, especially in high temperatures or under heavy loads.
    • Causes: Low coolant levels, blocked radiator airflow, or malfunctioning cooling fans.
    • Solutions: Check and refill coolant levels, clean radiator fins, and repair or replace faulty cooling fans
  • Steering Difficulties:
    • Problem: Difficulty turning or reduced steering precision.
    • Causes: Low steering fluid, worn-out components like tie rods, or misaligned wheels.
    • Solutions: Refill steering fluid, replace damaged components, and align wheels.
  • Electrical Problems:
    • Problem: Disruptions in lights, horns, or signals.
    • Causes: Blown fuses, damaged wiring, or faulty bulbs.
    • Solutions: Replace blown fuses, repair wiring, and install new bulb
  • Fork Misalignment:
    • Problem: Uneven loads causing instability.
    • Causes: Bent forks from overloading or misaligned during improper usage.
    • Solutions: Inspect and repair or replace forks, and train operators on proper handling technique

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee maintenance and repair efforts.
  • Manage maintenance activities and plans.
  • Resolve problems and ensure the safety of maintenance personnel.
  • Communicate with management on maintenance issues.
  • Provide supervision and direction for maintenance staff.
  • Monitor inventory and maintenance systems.
  • Plan, prioritize, and administer work orders.
  • Act as the first point of contact for maintenance-related activities.
  • Ensure good communication between Maintenance, Terminal, and Operations teams.
  • Maintain labor schedules to ensure high morale and quality production.
  • Coordinate with the Safety and Health Office.
  • Implement accident prevention and safety programs.
  • Ensure compliance with labor relations policies.
  • Complete administrative procedures and reports accurately.
  • Available for after-hours emergencies.
  • Verify and approve labor records.
  • Prepare reports for local and corporate use.
  • Work in varying climates and environments with moving machinery.

Qualifications:

  • Education: A high school diploma or GED is preferred; a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering or a related field is a plus.
  • Certifications: CMRP or CPE certifications are advantageous.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in maintenance management, preferably in the manufacturing industry.
  • Skills: Strong leadership, working mechanical and electrical systems knowledge, and diagnostic tools proficiency. 
  • Knowledge: Understanding of DOT rules and regulations.
  • Working Supervisory Experience: Required.

Schedule:

  • 1st shift, occasional weekends

  • The work environment involves hazards, risks, or discomforts typical of working with or around machinery with exposed moving parts, errant chemicals, heavy equipment, and extreme heights.
  • Exposure to disagreeable weather conditions and extreme levels of temperature, ventilation, lighting, and noise levels in the work environment.
