The ideal Senior Estimator is a professional with extensive experience in the field of electrical estimation. They should possess in-depth knowledge of comprehensive software tools designed to streamline and optimize the process of estimating costs for projects. This employee will play a crucial role in the company by accurately determining the costs associated with different electrical systems and components.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Develop accurate, competitive, and profitable takeoff bid proposals for a variety of complex and large as well as small and simple projects.
- Review RFQ, RFP, & Invitations to Bid
- Manage the estimating processes and timelines to meet company objectives, both short and long range
- Communicate with customers to define the project scope, address deficiencies, negotiate pricing and build relationships.
- Review takeoffs from estimators and check for conformity to specs and drawings.
- Prioritize, supervise, direct and schedule estimating projects.
- Responsible for prioritizing and planning work activities, uses time efficiently and develops realistic action plans.
- Prepare contractual exhibits and scope documents.
- Conduct internal estimate reviews.
- Develops and documents logical assumptions during conceptual estimating activities and applies these assumptions to take-off tasks.
- Participate in project turnover and kickoff collaboration when necessary.
- Provides analytical summaries and recommendations to the senior leadership as needed to support decision making.
- Attending job walks and reporting information back to the manager related to critical differences in job drawings and bid requirements.
- Develop and provide estimating training as necessary.
- Maintain department confidentiality.
- Follow-up on bid results and maintain estimate tracking log.
- Analyze estimates vs. completed projects.
- Assists with other job responsibilities as required.
Skills and qualifications
- Minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in the construction industry, preferably with an electrical contractor.
- Deep understanding of electrical codes and regulations.
- Oversees multiple estimators and junior estimators.
- Proficiency in using specialized estimation software and tools such as, Accubid & LiveCount
- Ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems.
- Ability to create accurate cost estimates, take-offs, and proposals efficiently with minimal errors.
- Ability to perform detailed work and successfully meet deadlines, this is critical to the position.
- Previous management or supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong communication skills are essential to interact with clients, project managers, subcontractors, and other team members. Be able to explain your estimates and negotiate contracts effectively.
- Aware of current market trends/conditions, including fluctuations in material costs and labor rates, to provide accurate and competitive estimates.
- Being able to find creative solutions to unexpected challenges and adapt accordingly.
- Strong ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines is crucial in the fast-paced construction industry.
