The Latino Heritage Internship Program (LHIP) seeks to engage Latino undergraduates and recent graduates ages 18 - 30, and up to 35 for veterans, for this unmatched leadership training program that is focused in the cultural and natural resource management. You must be (additional requirement):

  • You must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.

  • A valid driver’s license is required.

*A personal vehicle is recommended for this position.

 

Position Description: 

The LHIP intern will be part of the Zion Youth Program cohort. This position will support summer outreach and youth programming at Zion National Park. During the summer, Zion Education focuses on engaging youth through Junior Ranger programming and collaborates with partner and community organizations to host special events both in and outside the park.

In 2025, the LHIP intern will support Zion's youth programs by creating their own Junior Ranger programs to be presented at Zion's Nature Center and other areas of the park. These interpretive programs will be developed for youth and their families and will be delivered in both English and Spanish. The Junior Ranger programs will be based on Zion's interpretive themes and inspired by its natural and cultural resources. Additionally, the intern is expected to incorporate research findings on Latino heritage in Utah and the Latino community's connection to Zion National Park to focus their interpretive programs and create educational materials.

In addition to sharing these stories with the public visiting Zion National Park, the LHIP intern will work with Zion staff to develop outreach materials in both English and Spanish for use during outreach initiatives and special events.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma. A college degree and/or education in fields such as history, Latin American Studies, Environmental Education, Science Education, Education, and/or Community Engagement is preferred.

  • Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish

 

Interns in this program will receive 480 hours towards Public Land Corps (PLC) Hiring Authority. See below for more information about PLC.

Public Land Corps Non-Competitive Hiring Authority (PLC)

The Public Land Corps Non-Competitive Hiring Authority is a special hiring authority available to qualifying interns. The intern must be between the ages of 18 and 30 years old, inclusive, or a veteran up to age 35 and complete 640 hours of work on an appropriate conservation project to be eligible for this hiring authority. Upon successful completion of the PLC project(s), the intern is eligible for two years to be hired non-competitively into a federal seasonal, term, or permanent position. The applicant must apply to a PLC-eligible position advertised on USAJobs.gov and selected off a non-competitive certificate of eligibility.
