What are the responsibilities and job description for the Trades Generalist position at Environmental Conservation, Department of?
Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
Under the direction of a COS 2, the selected candidates will perform routine maintenance tasks at assigned seasonal campgrounds. Tasks will encompass all trades (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, equipment operation) at a journeyman's level. Will participate in infrastructure rehabilitation including building construction and reconstruction, installation of buried utilities, sewer lift station maintenance, water system chlorination maintenance and daily tracking per Dept. of Health standards during the open camping season, and hazardous tree cutting. Will function as a field supervisor assigned to 2 seasonal campgrounds and aide in facilitating collation of weekly Recreation paperwork and guidance manual compliance. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain. Must be able to work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response. Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 70 pounds.
This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2025, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
