General Purpose: Responsibility for the financial and managerial/cost accounting direction and strategy of the organization. Manages and oversees the administration of the company’s accounting systems, practices, procedures and controls; and ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.

General Purpose: Responsibility for the financial and managerial/cost accounting direction and strategy of the organization. Manages and oversees the administration of the company’s accounting systems, practices, procedures and controls; and ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for managing all finance department personnel.
- Ensures that departmental work is prioritized and appropriately assigned.
- Establishes clear performance expectations and goals, and monitors quality and timeliness of work output.
- Completes performance reviews timely and proposes annual salary adjustments.
- Ensures that all accounting transactions and reporting are processed in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and that a proper set of financial controls/checks and balances are in place.
- Prepares financial statements on a monthly basis.
- Ensures that all accounts are closed within five days of month-end using established processes and procedures.
- Trains departmental employees on the correct and proper procedures to be followed.
- Uses computerized financial and production planning systems to track and report financial data for effective decision support.
- Is a company champion for performance monitoring and key indicator reporting within a production and office environment who strives for continuous improvement.
- Approves all financial transactions (including POs, invoices, payroll, cash payments) for the organization within limits of authority
- Prepares cash forecasts and manages working capital, including collections of accounts receivable.
- Manages and tracks all capital expenditures, including asset tracking.
- With the Operations Manager, manages inventory costs and quantities and reviews cycle counts for accuracy.
- Creates and documents financial processes and ensures that all employees are following the established processes
- Determines any lease structures on facilities or equipment
- Assists with contract reviews (supplier, customer, rep group, distributor group)
- Approves any unusual terms & conditions requested by sales
- Under the direction of the President, facilitates the process and compiles the annual operating and capital budgets for the organization using input from each departmental manager.
- Uses data to forecast financial performance and compares actual results to budgets.
- Analyses data for problems and issues that are having in impact on the financial performance of the organization and through discussions with employees, determines root causes and solutions to problems.
- Analyzes variances in actual vs. budgeted spending and meets with managers to determine countermeasures as necessary.
- Monitors the performance of the company through active participation and understanding of the business processes
- Promotes awareness of trends relating to both the company and customer’s businesses.
- Responsible for facilitating positive banking relationships with lenders.
- Ensures that necessary lines of credit are in place and that the services and fees associated with banking are favorable to company requirements.
- Meets with banking contacts regularly to review and foster relationships.
- Takes necessary actions to keep the company in compliance with bank loans and covenants. Works to gain approval and award of all available grants. Tracks expenses, activities and reporting of grant activity.
- Prepares and presents data at year-end for audit and tax preparation purposes. Provides all necessary information and works closely with external resources to ensure activities are being done timely and accurately. Makes tax payments on time as scheduled.
- Works with the HR manager to understand and properly account for all benefits and employee programs offered. Secures necessary and cost-effective insurance plans for both employees and company.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications, Education and Certifications:
- BS Degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline. CPA certification preferred.
- 5-10 years’ experience working as a plant controller or cost manager in a manufacturing environment, managing a staff, with an emphasis on cost accounting, reporting and variance analysis.
- Demonstrated strength in providing strategic direction to organization the areas of organizational objectives, general accounting, budgeting, cost accounting, credit/collections, and finance.
- Experience working for a privately held company with annual sales in excess of $10 million preferred.
- Excellent working knowledge of automated accounting and Epicor ERP systems required.
- Experience operating within and facilitating ISO certification guidelines is preferred.
