The Underwriting Assistant is responsible for the management and processing of our business segment which supports General Liability, Auto, Workers Compensation, Excess, Excess Workers Compensation, Package and Umbrella lines of business. The Insurance Underwriting Operations Risk Management department of Everest Insurance, a member of the Everest Re Group, Ltd. is looking for a Underwriting Assistant I to join our Warren, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago or Atlanta office. Responsibilities include but not limited to: Perform underwriting support activities associated with information gathering and rating of new business, renewals, binders, and mid-term changes, as well as electronic file preparation on behalf of the Underwriter. Rating multi-line risks for new business submissions and renewals. Issuing new business and renewal policies as instructed by the Underwriter. Process and issue mid-term premium and non-premium bearing endorsement transactions. Research and answer inquiries from internal and external customers. Will interact directly with various business partners and internal departments. Meet departmental Service Standards in place for each process. Special projects, including participation of Home Office projects, as needed. Qualifications, Education & Experience: Relevant work experience required. Proficient in MS Office, with exceptional skills in Microsoft Excel a plus. Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in insurance operations or related fields. Capable of mastering multiple systems and have experience working in a paperless environment. Ability to adapt to a fast paced, high production environment. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Knowledge, Skills & Competencies: Strong desk management, written and verbal communication skills. Strong comfort level with developing rapport with business partners, underwriters, agents and co-workers by phone, email or in person. Ability to prioritize competing demands and requests to complete work within required time constraints with a high volume of work. Demonstrate strong analytical skills and mathematical aptitude. Proficient knowledge of underwriting principles, product specific coverage, policy forms, pricing tools, regulatory compliance, and insurance systems. Strong competency in problem solving and analytical skills to be able to trouble shoot issues within the policy admin system. Proficiency in using online reference manuals and multiple electronic systems. The ability to work in a team environment and handle multiple deadlines with ease. Self-starter that is energized by independent learning and research.
