Job Overview for Medical Social Worker
We are looking for a Part Time or PRN experienced Medical Social Worker to join our patient care team and provide social work services to patients in their primary residence. The right candidate is a patient, compassionate professional who assists patients and their families in helping them understand and cope with a diagnosed illness and all the emotional turmoil that comes with it.
Qualifications
Responsibilities for Medical Social Worker
- Works closely with doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals.
- Review new patient admissions to assess the needs of patients and their families.
- Directs families to resources that assist with financial burdens, social needs, and emotional stress resulting from the diagnosis.
- Works as an advocate for the patient to support them in navigating the medical system.
- Counsels patients and their families who are distressed.
- Offers crisis intervention.
- Identify any mental health concerns and make appropriate referrals.
Qualifications for Medical Social Worker
- Proven experience as medical social worker.
- Ability to maintain composure in stressful and/or dangerous situations.
- Service oriented and possesses social perceptiveness.
- Intimate knowledge of crisis intervention.
- Skills in critical thinking and decisiveness.
- Caring and compassionate personality.
Experience and Education for Medical Social Worker
- Experience in providing social worker services to patients and families involving medical situations.
- Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field.
