What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Access Representative position at Excelsior Springs City Hospital?
Responsibilities:
- Oversees the process of incoming patient orders, verifying order is valid and adds to the order information to the tracking spreadsheet
- Obtains current, complete, and accurate demographics at pre-registration and registration
- Verifies or obtains insurance eligibility verification and works with pre-service team prior authorization based on procedures or insurance policies for walk in patients
- Notifies pre-service team of changes or missing verifications
- Review’s patient liability, offers terms, and secures payments
- Offers financial assistance as appropriate and provides patient form to complete
- Completes all necessary forms in association with securing payments
- Complies with all payer regulations and requirements
- Completes medical necessity review along with all applicable documentation – ABN or Notice of Non-Coverage
- Assist with patient scheduling as necessary
- Keeps accurate documentation of daily census records, assigned and vacant beds and daily census reports for all patients. Performs admission and discharge process as established by hospital policies for the morning process.
- Serves as back up to the Patient Access Support functions (i.e. switchboard operator, mail processing)
- Identifies problems and offers constructive suggestions for improvement within department with the Patient Access Director, in a private setting
- Performs other duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
- Prefer High School diploma.
- Must have working knowledge of basic medical terminology, good oral and written communication skills, and the ability to be scheduled for work based on hospital need.
- Must be able to work on multiple tasks with attention to detail, handle urgent tasks and exercise good independent judgment when necessary.
- Must be able to use personal computers including knowledge of Microsoft office products.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully and harmoniously with guests.
